« on: July 20, 2010, 22:53 »

They may well germinate but whether they are suitable for growing in the UK may well depend upon where they were grown in the first place.

You may also risk introduction of infection with some.... Have a google and see what info there is on this subject. I'm sure there'll be a bit of advice on the web.  ;)

Thanks, i know that most of the veggies in work come from Holland. I've got the chilli seed pkts before & thought why waste money when i could just seeds from my a chilli but i see now that that's not the case

The great thing about gardening and growing plants is there's always someone who can prove you wrong and many ways of achieving the same results...so give it a go;)

It will be a bit of fun and might save a little bit of cash too.  :)

Yaayyyy.

Knew I wouldn't have to wait long, here we go:

go:

Several things to consider:

Cross polllination, as above. Seeds were saved from a marrow, but it had crossed with a pumpkin.

Country of origin, as mentioned.

Seeds may be from an F1 hybrid, may not grow true to form and could have the characteristics of either original parent which may not be desireable on their own.

Nothing to stop you having a go though to see what you get.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Apparently so, I gave these plants to a neighbouring plot holder, much to my embarrassment. The ones I kept for myself were fine!
