And if you've got to mow; mow now, or else you'll have to stay all night...

Ha ha ha, my little joke - thank you Manfred Mann and Bob Dylan!

It's the time of year when one spends a couple of days cleaning up the mower, and immediately you've finished, the grass promptly starts growing again! I've never got it right, so presumably this year will be no exception!

Anyone have any rules for this quandary?

Better still, don't clean it at all!

Mine's a fairly ancient Flymo rotary mower which is 90% plastic - it has never crossed my mind, especially early in the year, to do anything other than turn it upside down with increasing frequency and impatience to clear out the claggy moss and other non-grassy materials which have somehow become a major feature of my 'lawn' over the years.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Although grass will grow more slowly at this time of year, if the average temps stay above 40C it will still need mowing occasionally. ps - I thought Go Now was by the Moody Blues.

 I thought Moody Blues as well, but didn't feel confident enough to say so - but whatever, its a good song and I loved the Moodys and Manfred.   Mrs Bouquet

This taken from Wiki. seems everybody is right
"For the 1995 television film, see Go Now (film).
Not to be confused with If You Gotta Go, Go Now, a song by Bob Dylan.
"Go Now" is a song composed by Larry Banks and Milton Bennett. It was first recorded in January 1964 by Bessie Banks, and later became associated with The Moody Blues."
