Plants in suspended animation!
« on: July 25, 2017, 15:28 »
I have a Gartenperle tomato in a biggish tub outside in a sunny place which has lots of flowers and just one tomato fruit, plus three sweet pepper potted-on seedlings in my greenhouse that are about 4" high. Trouble is they've been like this for about 6 weeks! Everything in my greenhouse and the outside veg are growing really well. Anyone know why?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Could you have something like chafer grubs in the containers eating the roots? The obvious answer would be dryness but I'm sure you are watering plenty.

My guess would be that the compost has got dry and your watering is not going in, in which case stand them in a bucket or trough to get properly rehydrated.

Alternatively they may need a feed of Tomorite or similar liquid feed.

What is a sunny place this year? It's the intermittent sunshine, weather blowing hot and cold, chilly night temperatures (cool for this time of the year said the weatherman this morning).

You aren't the only one muttering.
