Is it better to dig downhill or uphill on a slight slope?

Physically speaking It's easier to dig from the top and work your way down, but depending on the type of soil and angle of the slope you have, you may have to work some type of erosion prevention into your design.

My allotment is on quite a steep slope and I always dig from top to bottom. (mainly because its easier as LotuSeed said) but as im digging I try and dump the fork load above where im digging it from and then smooth it out with a soil rake closer to planting time.
Although my allotment is on heavy clay soil so it doesnt move that much throughout the year.

i can't help with experience on digging in the garden. but when i used to dig worms for fishing bait from rivers it's easier to start high and work down (with you nearest the lowest part of the slope and the fork nearest the top), if that makes sense.

i found it a little easier on your back as you don't need to bend so much.
