Just an extra special one for your first gsc!  But tell those girls not to lay too many doubles, or they'll run out of eggs too quickly!   :(

well done double yolkers rock why can't we genetically modify a chicken that lays tripple yolkers all the time. if we can control ovulation in women with the pill maybe we can dose the girls up on some funky hormones that make them lay double yolkers everyday.  Now all we need to deal with is the Bloch ethics of it al

l uuummmmmmmm triple yolkers  :D

mmmmm not sure about thsi.  If a chicken has a finite number of eggs to deliver does a double/triple yolker count as 2/3 eggs?

Yes.

so if a hen layed double yolkers every day, not only would it be very hard on her (as they are much bigger than normal eggs), but her laying life would be halved as she used up all her ova.

Congrats gsc - your girls are obviously happy but you may find that's a one off :D

Our very first egg from our bantams was a double yolker, then we got got a couple of soft shells, then they sychronised the internal mechanics and produced single yolkers.  Every new batch since has done much the same.

Don't think I would want to see a GM modified chicken either.  Horses for courses but IMO the harder you push an animal beyond it's natural productivity, the lower it's life expectancy and the greater the risk of health issues.

I guess if they had the technology they'd have done it already  :(

I doubt the big boys care much and if the can get anything extra out in a shorter time .......

No I am happy with one yolk per egg.  It was just a nice surprise for the first one.

Yeah so what if they lay for half the time I'd look after one even after it stopped laying as a pet to say thanks for all the tasty double yolkers I'd had . GM chicken, it's the future !

I think the record number of eggs in one shell is 9!  Imagine that one coming out!  Poor chicken!

gsc, would you like to see the eggs before they are laid?  I have a photo I put on here once before, but some people said it was gross, but I could perhaps PM it to you???  Don't want to upset anyone!!!  :(
