Title: weed identification help
Post by: Grubbypaws on May 09, 2018, 14:02
What is the name of this weed? It spreads by long white underground tendrils and has a purple flowers in summer.

It has invaded my garden and I am at a loss what to do! I have tried teasing it out where it is amongst my flower beds but it has taken over square meters of lawn.

Help!!

It looks like a vetch, which is in the pea family. On the plus side, it captures Nitrogen from the air and stores it in a form useable to plants in its roots, which become available when the plant dies.

So the question is how do I make it die?
