to dig or not to dig that is the question  :D still on this topic a friend of ours was digging his plot it looked like he was digging  the ground quite easy then I noticed he was using a Terex spade

he said this is a lovely tool for digging he said he was given it free  i said i to have  a Terex  in the tool shed like you  I was given it free by a friend that had given up gardening I looked on line and there quite costly to buy even second hand ones so who needs no dig when youv'e  got a Terex

Some of the 'old timers' on my site have started some no dig beds after seeing the results of some of the newbies' efforts.

Same at our site. One brave old boy is even woodchipping his paths!

Call me weird but I like digging.
So do I and at 76 it keeps my old muscles active and my joints loose

Stop digging, its bad for you…..Could I suggest the opposite?

There is a guy of 80+ that has two plots and he digs. He has well laid out plots to be proud of. He tells the tales of what his father taught him which he follows. He is a very happy healthy fellow

Me it’s my first year with an allotment which came from limitations of square foot gardening at home.

After the first year I am hooked and will taking on an extra half plot all due to No dig.

I listen to and take note of what my fellow allotment neighbour tells me and appreciate his help and advice, I had a great crop of spuds due to his comment of using straw on top of the spuds. This was done on my no dig raised bed.

Dig or No dig? It will always be a personal choice but whatever you choice it will work for you.

Quite agree Veg Plot 18

It is a personal choice and do what you want and makes you happy.

I look at it like food, we get told not to eat this or that and then six months later its ok for us to eat this and that, but not those because those contains things which is bad for you until 6 months later they discover those actually are of benfit to you.
