Now, come on you lot, be fair - I can only do a bit of editing.
If Aunty sees the nortiness, she could use the BIG RED BUTTON and you'd be toasted

I keep a record (actually a Spreadsheet) of hen I sow (and first & last harvest date) and the number of plants that I grow, and then Notes on whether the family like/hate them and want more/less.  Now I grow only the exact number that my records suggest we need - so that includes fiddly successional sowing of 4 Cauliflowers per fortnight (during the season) and so on.

I have a list like this too. It helps me think through how many plants/how much space each crop then needs. recording two years ago that we were absolutely fed up with spinach for example meant I did not grow any at all last season. Guess what the first veg on the request list for next season is... yup: spinach!! I find planting the successions in short rows across a bed gives useable space to follow on.

This means economic use of space, less waste and better value related to what we actually want to eat.

My daughter bought me a lovely garden journal for Christmas so I will be able to keep track of everything this year.  If you only want 4 per sowing how many seeds do you sow at a time?

If you only want 4 per sowing how many seeds do you sow at a time?

Depends on a few things :)

If you have masses of seed in the packet (1,500 seeds in a packet of lettuce ... even if that lasts 5 years that's 300 seeds a year, assuming I can eat 100 lettuces a year, which I doubt, then 3-seeds-per-plant would be fine.  If you only get 5 seeds in a packet, of some exotic F1 plant!, and they cost a £quid each  then every one needs to form a plant.

If sowing direct then you could sow several seeds at each "station", rather than in a continuous drill and then thin all-but-one as they grow.

If sowing directly into modules / pots then similarly can sow several seeds per pot and thin as they grow.

If sowing in a seed tray / similar, to prick out, I sow about 25% to 100% extra (depends on how well I know that they germinate, and how generous the seed packet is).  I prick out about 20% more than I need, so I generally have a couple of extra plants which I give / throw away. Sometimes a couple snuff it, and then I have just-enough.
