what could I grow in a poly tunnel?
« on: April 24, 2011, 17:16 »
I dont need one to start seeds off as I have room at home for that but I have seen poly tunnels at allotments down the road from ours and was thinking that I maybe missing out??( not even sure if these people have had permission or not) so what would I use it for apart from sheltering from the rain?? (really fancy one) but have to really justify it  ::)
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

Although this board is relatively new it already has some useful threads in it if you care to read through them - this one includes some popular ideas:

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

We use our totally home-made tunnel to grow crops in the summer which appreciate a little more warmth than outdoors can guarantee. Over last winter we tried to use it to grow salad crops. A good example was spring onions which went in the ground in October, started to grow then stopped and sat until late March.  Too cold up here to try that, but further south you can use them for that kind of purpose. :)

try this .list what you would like to eat early.... cauliflowers can be ready weeks earlier than outdoors as can other brassicas.carrots, beets ,salads are always easy. so think about it , plan your outdoor stuff then throw in a few things that you can be cropping a lot earlier .i will be eating biggggggg (6.1/2 lbs my best last season) caulis fairly soon
still alive /............
