I am seeing autumn onion sets (radar) already on eBay and various garden websites. I thought they didn't go in until Sept/Oct?

I think I will be starting mine off in modules this time, especially in this constant wet weather. Then I can regulate the root moisture; plant out rooted in spring.

I dibbed a planting hole for my set's last september. I filled the hole with sharp sand and i have just harvested the best onion's i have ever grown. No sign of rot or mildew anywhere on them. Before i used sand, i allways lost some onion's to rot.

good tip fatcat; I'll try some like that and see if I get a really early harvest next year. No loss as I can always follow up with my module grown ones or spring onions or leeks later on.

I think I'll give this a try this year because its always a bit hit and miss with the Autumn onions.
