Had stewed rhubarb last night - from my own plot! Can't really take any credit for it but great nonetheless.

There is a huge buzz from your own produce, isn't there?

Even a radish seems like a real miracle.

I like rhubarb but OH doesn't so I don't grow it. Then again, she likes celery and I loathe the taste with a passion.

You were right about my broad beans and garlic John - they seemed to have survived the cold weather without any harm coming to them. I've got fleece over my onions and carrots at the moment though - it should keep the birds off as well. There are a crowd of very calculating looking magpies and pigeons on our site that I wouldn't trust.
Got my spuds in on Saturday. My beetroot, cauliflower and brussels are all sprouting up but no sign of any tomatoes yet - must be too cold.

It's the pigeons that really do the damage - grrrr

It's quite surprising how different the climate is in London and the South East. I went up to London last week and you can really tell the temperature is a couple of degrees higher and things are a few weeks ahead there.

Hope your tomatoes come through soon.  Almost all of mine are peeping through now, plus lots of other things, but still nothing in the ground outside yet.  They reckong we are in for some more frosts in the next couple of days!

my rhubarb has suddenly shot up in the last week, like you said john the weather down here is warming up. unfortunately the weeds are popping up too. time to start getting to the lottie more regularly

Just to add to the rhubarb thread, we had rhubarb crumble yesterday evening for tea, straight from the allotment. My girls thought it was marvelous especiall since the younger one pulled the rhubarb herself.
