vaccination
« on: August 20, 2011, 09:52 »
I have 4 chickens. Had them just a few weeks and they are fine. When I bought them I asked if they needed to be vaccinated like other pets and if so how often. I was told that they were already vaccinated and wouldn't need to be treated again. Is this true and should I have been given a certificate of vaccination as proof?
Thanks

no they don't need doing again. They don't come with certificates but they could give you the vaccination numbers (assuming they kept records and dates), however there are so many different vaccines both live and dead that they probably will not have been vaccinated against everything (also the vaccines are very very expensive). I would find out if they used live or dead vaccines - live vaccines could have a detrimental effect on any unvaccinated birds you may have or get in the future. Having said that I have a mixture of both vaccinated and not (mainly not) but my birds completely free range so any droppings are very widely spread out  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
