Help! I saved some seeds & forgot to label the envelope!! Now I cant remember if they're butternut squash or if they're courgette. Is there any way of telling now or when seedlings?

courgettes only get seeds in if your let them mature into marrows, so did you do that?

other than that they do look pretty similar so it may be a case of pot luck!!

The courgette seedlings will probably come up first, squashes need a little more warmth to germinate.

If you grew them near to each other they may well have crossbred and what you get is not what mum looked like.

Just compared my courgette and butternut seeds.  The courgette is rounded like an almond and the squash is paler and concave, like a fingernail.
Cheese makes everything better.

My b/n squash seeds have tiny fragments of dried orange flesh on them... can you see any?

I carefully labeled  bags for my runner bean and french bean seeds then put them in the wrong way round! Fortunately they look very different. ::)

All I know is that Bottleneck squash seeds (those massive long green things) look entirely different from courgette and butternut squash seeds - but that bit of information is a fat lot of help! :tongue2:

It helped me last year when the envelopes split and the seed mixed. ::)
