Title: Conquering the jungle

I was looking at a new person's plot yesterday (I of course am an old hand, having been making mistakes since January). They've got a very overgrown plot with loads of junk in it as well as weeds. They've just cleared a small area of the worst of the top growth and built some small raised beds. They've used straw on the paths between.
The beds look very good - full of stuff like lettuce, beetroot etc. It must be heartening for them so see so much progress so quickly - and a good excuse to ignore the jungle on the rest of the plot.
Definately a good strategy for anyone taking over a very overgrown plot, especially in the summer when the weeds are so high.
I'll try to remember to take a picture.

That's great - I always feel sorry for people who take on an overgrown plot then give up. Taking it in bite-size chunks and getting some immediate return is by far the best way.
