Wine/Beer/Cider Kits at The Range
« on: October 24, 2013, 21:03 »
I ventured out today (to do some shopping for the festival) and was pleasantly surprised to see these new additions.  :)

7 day, 30 bottle wine kits (red/white/rose) in a large pouch (the yeast etc. is in a small compartment inside the pouch) for £20.

They also had various types of beer and cider for about £15 (7-10 day kits).

Naturally, I thought it was worth a try so I bought the rose kit and I shall report back later.  :tongue2: :D

Hi Capt.

After a bit of investigation I've found it was from here.  http://makeyourowndrinks.co.uk/.  I bought mine from a local 'The Range' store but there is s stockist search page.

I started it off yesterday, but with kitchen temp's at the moment, my heating pad (ex-vivarium) doesn't seem to be quite enough.  Tonight's 'cunning plan' is to have a furtle for my unused electric back warmer.  :)

I've found a shop in Coventry....will wait and see what you think of their wine kits, and then may have a ride over... ;)

Well, this has taken some time (partly down to low temps in the kitchen and partly because I was in no hurry!) but even with optimum conditions it's deffo not a 7 day kit.

Racked it off last week into beer pressure vessel (for ease of decanting), added sugar and gubbins (finings etc.) and am now sampling.  :tongue2:

It hasn't had time to clear completely (although it's pretty close), but I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised.  I didn't add as much sugar to sweeten (500g) as was recommended (750g) but I would say it's equal to a bottle of Blossom Hill rose, and at 75p a bottle is excellent value as a quaffing wine and lighter alternative to a red.

Mags  :)
