broad beans - flowering to eating time?
« on: May 27, 2008, 20:56 »
Broad beans all been flaunting their flowers off like it's the Mardi Gras for the past few weeks but no sign of any bean pods yet - any experienced hands give me a pointer or two here?
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

Wait and they will come'th. Mine have be flowering for a good while and I have notice the little pods on their way, this rain/cold period might do them some good and get them going a bit quicker.

A few warm days and some bees for pollination might speed things up.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Mine were sown in Feb, planted out about 5 weeks ago .. flowered about 3 weeks ago ... and now have some tiny pods developing  :D  We've had mostly unbroken sunshine for the past 3 weeks . Today's been dull and overcast and we've had rain all day .... the beans(and the rest!) wil be glad of the rain, I'm sure!

My broad beans are a few inches long now - planted end of october.  What I am wondering is how long before they finish cropping normally? (as I am running out of space!) Do you experienced folk think they will be done by the end of June?
