Grass for drought
« on: August 19, 2018, 09:42 »
Hi all,
I am hoping to replace my lawn this autumn and want to allow for the hot summers here in Mid France.
I would like to make the soil less prone to drying and cracking, its about a 1/4 acre. At the monument it is looking very sorry for itself with hardly any growth and plenty of brown.
Regards

Usually the toughest grass seed mixes are those sold for family lawns, but you can find ones designed for clay soils as well.  There are also meadow mixes and pasture mixes for horses you could investigate.

Ground cracking in dry spells is difficult as improving soil structure over such a big area would be a bit of a task.  Having taller grasses and wild flowers with paths mown through might help shade the soil a bit, or at least hide the cracks
