Poor Pudtat - these ducklings are terrifying things don't you know  ??? My cats hated Bumble & Bee as babies. I was scared they would try to eat them, but they wouldn't even come into the room if they were in it  ::) I accidentally locked Caesar in with the Poland chicks for a day and came back from work to find him sat in the corner just staring at the uncovered brooder box! All chicks were fine but he belted out of the house as soon as the door was open! They seem to know they aren't allowed to eat the fluffy ones in the house or my garden,  but any other bird is fair game to them.

Need lots more photos now  ;)

Ok, ok!!

I'm just a bit slow as only have my mobile but here they are enjoying their first taste of the outdoors. Amazing how quickly they settled into foraging for bits of whatever in the grass.

Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

They are fab. They do grow like weeds though. I swear they have doubled in size since they first hatched! They will have to move into the larger brooder by the end of this week and then no doubt end up in the kitchen for a while. Keeping my fingers crossed for lots of good weather so they can get out soon.

Having the bathroom gutted could not have come at a worse time! Poor mites don't even have anywhere to go for a swim. My Mum already dispairs that after procrastinating for ages, the first people to use my new bath will be the ducks!!! At least I won't have to be ashamed of the pics of them in the bath.

Most of the girls had homes to goto before they were laid and the remaining 1 will stay with me. Don't like to hatch any unless there is a plan for where they go.

As with most poultry the boys are the problem. Some may be rehomed (there is one really lovely one I would be very sad not to be able to rehome) but any I can't will have to be for the table. Indont have the room either in terms of physical space or the number of girls to keep the ratio comfortable to keep them all. I hate killing them but love roast duck and this way I know that what I eat has had a safe, free, happy existance up until that point.

Well they are growing like weeds and have completely outgrown their little rabbit cage and are now in the kitchen. Always makes life a bit more difficult when you have ducklings about your feet pulling at your trousers while you try and make a cuppa but it won't be for long.

Bother. Having lots of problems loading more pics but will keep trying.

Yay  :D So cute! I can't wait to bring home Patrick babas - although they wont be getting my kitchen as it is all in one with the living room and carpeted (think of the mess!!!)  They will have the little indoor cage for night that the boys had and then the bath and a little indoor run until they are big enough to meet the other boys and girls outside. I candled the eggs under Eve and think 2 may be viable, but they are dubious so if they don't hatch next week she may get very big babies to see if that will make her happy  ;) Last year she decided to mother 8 week old chicks so you never know....

Ooh, it would be lovy if they took to each other. The ducklings are so funny running round my ankles although I am terrified I'm going to tread on one!

Here are a couple more pics  :D
