I've heard two people say that before slowef - and in one case it was 'famous last words'

Yes I agree, better safe than sorry.  He's so old and slow he prob  wouldn't stand a chance but I would never leave him on his own to be on the safe side.

We have four English Springer Spaniels who take no notice of the chicks we hatched out but if they see the four other hens through the kitchen window they go absolutely crazy and I know that given the chance we would be minus 4 hens as catching birds is what Springers live for, luckily we have seperate areas fenced off with 6 foot high fence panels so there is no chance of the dogs getting to them. Personally I wouldn't trust any dog when it comes to birds

Hi just reading through and this caught my eye. We have 12 chickens, 3 ducks, a dog ,2 cats , a budgie, 6 rabbits and 4 african land snails ! (and two children) We have a border collie who adores the chickens and is excellent at rounding them up at night time to put them to bed.She has never attempted to get them but like you guys i wouldn't leave her with them. She has had a good few warning pecks from my very handsome cockerel who protects his girlies at all times.

Earl (my cat) loves to watch the hens while they are in their run and once they are out in the open on the grass he stalks them.... never attacked them more curious than anything else..
