I am hopeless at stringing garlic. I must practice harder :D

I just tie twine round them and then hang in my garage.. :)

If you want to properly plait them, you need soft neck ones and harvesting a bit earlier helps.
If you want a long garland, you will need to tie them.
-
start by taking a set of three . 1 on the bottom then 2 on top then three lay the leaves out like chicken toes and take the left over to the middle of the remaining 2 .then the right over to the middle of the first 2 .. then proceed on to do 3 turns . t .... add more garlic as you go and join the leaves into groups of three pulling tight as you go

ah,so just like plaiting hair.

Here it is, complete with pix. Might help to fix numbers on your garlic stems, and move the stems rather than the bulbs themselves. Good luck.

My way of storing garlic is to spend all of last Sunday afternoon peeling it, then run it through the blender to chop it up, put it in old coffee jars and pour over white wine vinegar. Got four jars this year to add to the one that's left from last year. It's the same as Lazy Garlic you buy in the shops.

I like the idea of lazy garlic, but the thought of peeling all those cloves of garlic fills me with dread.
Has anyone used a garlic press like this one (http://www.lakeland.co.uk/zylissREG-easy-peel-garlic-press/F/C/preparing-food/C/preparing-food-graters-peelers-slicers/Brand/ZylissANDreg;/product/6370) or a tube-like implement in which you roll the clove and the skin gets removed during rolling?

I've used both. the first needs to be quite strong or fresh garlic simply snaps the handles off the unit. Avoid cast metal presses as they're the ones which snap off.
The rolling tube is easy to use but your arm will fall off if you try to do a lot at one time. It's meant for 2-3 cloves at a time, not a bowl full. Peeling would be easier.
