Watermelons

Has anyone sucessfully grown these outside? I am giving them a try next year as i like to try new stuff.This year i grew Greek beans (Gigantes) which did pretty well  even though it was so hot and dry.They are normally grown in the mountains of northern Greece where it is relatively much cooler.
