I still cannot get a spark from my B & S engine for my Landmaster supere 88.  If I purchase a new engine from Ebay  will another make fit?

My engine is a 3.5 hp  B & S.   I have seen a good engine on Ebay but it is 6.5hp.  Would the mounting holes line up, or would just be too powerful?

Regards

Simon

i wouldn`t put the bigger engine on it.
are you sure you have isolated the cut out wire ect?
are you sure it aint got points? its old enough. these engines will normally putter and smoke on for ages before you need to change them. send me a pm. i will talk you though the obvious before you spend any money.

i cant tell you where to buy another engine as prices vary so much. ebay is a good place to start.
when you say it wont regulate itself what do you mean?
is the engine huntig? ie the revs go up and down a bit, or a lot?
hunting on briggs engine is normally caused by a blocked jet, or petrol intake tube. also as the engine gets a bit long in the tooth, thje governer springs get a bit on the slack side. this can cause the engines revs to go up and down in an annoying manner.
i would always try taking off the carb/fuel tank and cleaning it out with some carb cleaner and an air line, replacing the diaphragm, and changing a fivers worth of gov springs before spending any serious money on another engine.
i think that in the entire time i have been working on lawnmowers and such, i have only had to replace two engines, and thats in the last 23 years.
have another go at it. dont give it the satisfaction of beating you!!!

edited for very bad spelling!
