Title: The early tomato experiment 2013
Post by: Totty on March 11, 2013, 17:05
Not sure if there is already a similar thread elsewhere, so move this if need be.

A couple of shots of this years early sowings (January 21)
Potted on from 3 inch to 5 inch pots today as they were just starting to draw due to the closeness of the smaller pots in trays.
Varieties, Shirley, sungold, flamingo, tomatoberry grande, black prince, Sakura.

I grew sungold last year outside in pots but had to ripen them all indoors and they were tasteless they had started splitting on the plants due to torrential rain. Hope yours are tasty.

At the weekend I sowed 1-2 of 9 different varieties all indoors on my dining room table that gets the best of the south facing weather. Hopefully I will have seedlings in a week or 2. I always plant 1 seed to a paper cup then when a few inches high into the bottom of 6" pots and then into the big 10" morrisons pots. works well for me as I'm renting and don't want to invest in the garden.

No lights. Heat mat set at 15 degrees and greenhouse is kept at 10 degrees minimum. I take em off the mat in the daytime so they don't get overly mollycoddled.  Greenhouse is south facing too.
