and she does a lap of honour round the kitchen!
« on: May 13, 2014, 17:51 »
Well I thought I would have a go at the macarons, apparently all the rage and ordered a book from the library.

The recipes were very seductive, and as I have a carrier bag full of frozen egg whites in the freezer that needed using up I had a go.

What a disaster! >:( Followed the recipe exactly and it was a disaster.
trawled through my cookbooks to try and find other recipes, all of which were even more complicated so I tried the tinternet.

Found what I  was looking for, and made a batch today.

Almost perfect. :) Mint chocolate.

I do hate being beaten. ;)

And apparently they freeze, so only 100 to make for the wedding.

Looking good  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

They look veeeery tasty. I can manage Nigella's pistachio ones, but they are a slight fiddle.

Please send macarons this way.

Strangely enough I am going to do pink ones, to fit in with the colour scheme which is mainly white with ruby red and a tiny touch of black.

I don't think I will do raspberry tho' as I don't like using artificial flavourings.
I thought perhaps rosewater although that is an acquired taste, so it might be vanilla with white chocolate filling.

Or I could use freeze dried raspberries. Now that is food for thought.

Joyful, until today I had never had a macaron either. But it seems they are rather fashionable at the moment, especially for weddings. 8) I haven't told the happy couple about these as they are a surprise.

I thought they could go with the biscotti with coffee.

I am sorting out cheeseboards to help keep the cost of the catering down, and I am thinking of making a cheese wedding cake to look like the actual wedding cakes which are now in my freezer awaiting icing.

I really am a glutton for punishment.
If the venue were not so difficult I would have organised all the catering and saved them a goodly amount of money too. :(

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh now those I like! My friend had one for hers and as a moment of genius had takeaway containers for people to help themselves at the end of the night. So no leftovers to feel guilty about.

Beggar having containers for left overs, any left overs are coming home with me.

The guests can have the left over tray bakes and macarons, but OH and I are having the cheese.

You have started something now.
I spent time gurgling the tintetnet and have found freeze dried raspberry powder so I could go raspberry after all. :)

We went to a friends wedding and had a lovely time, it was all pre-arranged that we would go and pick up the 'rest of the wedding cake' the next day,  it was such a lovely hotel that we decided to take advantage of their 'afternoon tea', it was so obvious that the fruit cake served had had the icing scrapped off and the amount we collected as 'leftover' was minimal.

Ooooo, that is a right cheek.

The caterers won't be doing that to my son's wedding cake! Not after the agony I have gone through making the ruddy things!  I will be going with cling film, and plastic carrier bags to give away any left overs to the guests as they leave.

It will give me something to do. I am not one for sitting around.
We will have to remove ourselves and stuff on the evening of the wedding because of the nature of the venue.
No hotel for them.

I did think that too but I think it is a step too far for me at the moment.  I really have got enough to do.

Thank you for the kind words Chrissie.

I have had some raspberry powder and blackcurrant powder delivered, along with some natty little macaroon boxes and some silicone macaron mats and will have a little experiment next week. :D
