Once harvested how are carrots kept fresh and crunchy? Mine go limp within a matter of days!

Keep them in buckets or boxes of wet sand - but a you can also leave in situ and cover with a little straw/leaves or compost and then black plastic over that to stop them getting frosted.
Best to mark the rows cos as the tops die back you need to know where they are  ;)

Thanks mum, I'll leave them in situ in the bath until needed, but it can get quite expensive driving 10 miles just for couple carrots!

I hope this is not a daft question , by using sand are we talking about building sand.
I would like to add growing carrots to my success list , hopefully next year!!

Mine keep for a few days in the fridge, otherwise I peel and dice then freeze them. THey then just get chucked into various meals from frozen as things cook.

I’ve found that they can go limp & bendy very easily, goodness know how the supermarkets manage except they keep them in cold stores. This year I’ve been taking a bucket of water down to the bed when I harvest them & plunge them straight in, this seems to be working, also sometimes I wrap them in damp kitchen roll, then in a plastic bag, but always in the fridge.

Solway cropper, I am up north, had to chuck the coal out to get the carrots in.😁

I'm lucky enough to live walking distance from the plot so can pick each day i need things, i put fresh things into cold water to store for a couple of days if required. Supermarkets have lots of preserving chemicals for their vegetables, not interested in that thanks!
