advice on my second hand shed
« on: June 03, 2007, 20:41 »
We got given a shed for the allotment, 8ftx6ft. We're not allowed any concrete on site so have put it up with some posts driven in and screwed to the corners. It doesn't have a floor and we don't want to spend any money we don't have to. Will it be OK with an earth floor, or can anyone sugggest a cheap flooring?

Pallets would make a cheap floor, it will last longer if it's off the ground.

Pallets are the traditional allotment option. You need something to sit on when you're drinking you're tea.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

We've always placed our sheds on breeze blocks, a line of level blocks around the outer edge, with a cross in the middle to support the floor, and maybe one in each of the four squares for a bit more support if needed.  As for a floor, what about exterior ply, quite often found in skips after builders have used them to mix concrete etc on.

all the stones i have fettled out of the ground in the past few months were in a huge pile. i dug a hole where the shed was going and emptied them all in there. it disposed of them and made a solid base after compacting them down for the shed to sit on.  :D
