Title: peanut butter make or buy?
Post by: LILLILEAF on November 12, 2017, 08:14
I have never tried peanut butter,so my question is.
Do you make your own?,if not what is the best brand to try?,also is it a matter of taste crunchy or smooth.Lillileaf

As you're talking about one of the best foods ever produced, try 'Whole Earth' crunchy peanut butter!

It has no added sugar, and while it costs a little more than own-branded or even branded and popular, I always have a jar in the pantry!

Fabulous stuff, especially with a banana...

In fact, I'm going to try some on Ryvita's 'new' wholegrain cracker bread very soon, probably this evening!

Meridian no added sugar and no palm oil. Smooth or crunchy. Teaspoonful with my fruit and yogurt at breakfast or on porridge

I use the Meridian Organic as well. You get the choice of smooth or crunchy, salted or no salt. Personally I like the crunchy with salt.

Remember that real peanut butter does not have stabilizers in it so the oils will naturally separate to the top. Just stir it back in with a knife or similar to reconstitute it. If you buy the big 1 kilo plastic tubs, it can often be a good idea to turf it out into a large pyrex bowl and blend it properly with a big spoon. You can then spatula it back into the tub and it will be properly mixed.

It can be worth trying a few brands as they all toast or grind the nuts differently and they do indeed have unique tastes. Just read the ingredients. It should have peanuts, possibly salt and NOTHING else.

If you want to make your own, you do have to spend quite a bit of money on a nut mill which is hard to keep clean, expensive and only cost effective for large quantities.

Now Daniel, you're definitely the man to understand his peanut butter!

I'd forgotten about the settling in the jar, Whole Earth doesn't seem to, but it settles well on some fresh bread and glass of orange juice for breakfast...
