Thanx gwis, i have had a brief look and theres a large circlip one on each side and behind the circlip is metal do you know if the oil seal is a shielded one or is it just a large washer and are the seals accessible from the outside? thanks. Mick

if you remove the circlip, i think you may find the metal you mention is a large washer. this is to protect the oil seal from dirt ingress. pop that out, sometimes a magnet can help, and you should see the oil seal. these are inset. slide a small screwdriver down between the drive axle and the seal and gently prize out the seal.
fitting the new seal should be done using a "drift" this will be a metal tube with a diameter the same as the outside diameter of the seal.the inside diameter of the drift should be slightly larger than the axle, and long enough to go completely over the axle shaft. you tap the end of the shaft with the hammer GENTLY to bed in the seal to the inset.
does that make sence to you?
if not i will try to describe it a bit better.
all the best.
