On a recent visit to Japan I came across Bonsai Leeks 

Here is the entire Leek crop for 2012!!!!

I grew a packet of mini leeks one year in a pot... they grew to pencil thickness only..

But you should have left them to overwinter as they are still growing..

I think you've been had there   

My autumn ones are a bit bigger than that, but they suffered slow growth early on and I know they are not a winter hardy variety, so they will get eaten up soon.

The winter ones are also smaller than usual, but they have a bit of time yet.  Will eat my way through the plot to them in time

They went in April, the same size! no root development etc. Just been one of those years. We have very sandy soil here and anything below ground has either rotted or simply not grown from June onwards, our plots have been underwater for most of the summer and owt that was put in was washed away.
Roll on next year.
