I like to grow 3 varieties of squash every year. This year I chose Lakota, Canadian Crookneck and my old favourite Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato Acorn Squash.
Lakota and Canadian Crookneck have raced away and are in situ on the plot. However Thelma germinated but threw up what is a tiny plant. Everything is all there, it looks very healthy, it is just all in miniature. I haven't had the heart to throw it away, but should I? And start again?

As said in another post, even getting seeds to germinate this year has been problematic. When they do, some are ok and some just sit there and sulk. Give a bit of TLC with dilute feed and see if that helps.

That's what I have decided to do Sunny. I have sown a Sucrette.

I can now report that the bonsai Thelma Sanders plant was potted on and planted out with fingers crossed, still looking a bit small. It has now taken off. At the moment I have only 1 large fruit, but the vine is racing up the adjacent pea netting and I may get some more. Never give up on a plant!!
The Lakota squash has roamed everywhere but only 1 vast mature fruit. The others have all withered.
The Canada Crookneck has 4 good sized fruits and is doing better than expected - supposedly better in a polytunnel.
The late sown Sucrette has 1 fruit so far, but is galloping everywhere.

My Crown Prince are far from bonsai this year (first pic.)
A friend asked why I needed so many winter squashes, so I told her there were actually only 2 plants there!
Only 2 squashes have actually set (second pic) due to a shortage of female flowers and they are right next to each other - it's such a jungle I can't tell whether they are on the same or different plants, but they are of a size that many would be happy to achieve if they were pumpkins.
Despite my attempts to keep it within some sort of bounds it has escaped up into the nearby runner bean Munty frame, where I can see it's producing a rare female flower - could get interesting! :ohmy:
