Tonight is Boeuf Bourguignon which is slowly blupping in the crockpot, with hg sprouts and mash.
-
Mc, maybe everybody’s tummies are still delicate perhaps 😂
-
Fair! :D Actually just spotted the 2018 in the title. A restart? Is the other one still around somewhere? I scroll back at random for inspiration on those days when the CBA fairy is visiting and I really cant be bothered. Often sparks an idea. And often it is curry ... strange that! :)
Anyway, tonight is pizza, because I need cheering up! Rain rain go away! >:(
Scratch that - just found a marrow going soft, so veggie curry here too!
-

Leftover pork reheated in some gravy, boulangere potatoes and veg. Very full now
-
I made some savoury rice, then decided to tip some roasted veg (courgettes, pepper, onion, garlic & toms from the freezer) over it. Sprinkled it with a drop of honey mustard dressing and it was very nice for a bodge job
-
Cod Portuguese, leftover mash for him, rice from a packet for me, peas. Glass of Shiraz,Apple turnover, plain yogurt for me custard for him
-
and it was very nice for a bodge job
Often the best meals are a bit 'impromptu'! :nowink:
The other half of the boeuf bourg. from earlier in the week, with sprouts and mash. Lots of leftover sprout top to make bubble and squeak for tomorrow's lunch. :)
-
Bacon chops, bubble and squeak cakes, and by OH's special request, baked beans.
-
A tub of the Christmas beef in gravy made a reappearance today from the freezer, hubby made a sort of casserole with it with onions, peppers, mushrooms, carrots, Su dried tomatoes, with sliced potatoes on top & baked until hot & crispy, oh & half a tin of baked beans worked their way in there too.
We shred the bottle of prossecco that’s been in the fridge since New Year.
-
I used the other half of the roasted Med veg but had pasta with it this time, with lots of Parmesan on top.
Handful of sultanas after, as I try to cope with the post Christmas sugar craving ::)
-
Got some venison sausage out of the freezer to roast with potatoes and parsnip and onion and squash and anything else I can think of. Oh yes, and there will be spoon standing and redcurrant jelly.
Lots of veg will be roasted so there will be leftovers for rice (thanks MoS for the idea!) with cold meat over the weekend.
-
Fish pie from the freezer, extra potatoes as hubby says there aren’t enough & plenty of veg I hope, but as I’m resting on the sofa & hubby is in the kitchen anything could happen lol
-
A pie made from Christmas pork in gravy (from the freezer, I made them last week ;) with beans and mash.
still battling the sugar craving so a had a few more sultanas.
-
Very late back yesterday, so a quick egg fried rice made with rice out of one of those microwave sachets emptied into the pan (much nicer than the egg fried version of the sachet).
This afternoon a bakeathon is planned. Pasta dough, tomato sauce, borlotti beans, roasted squash and cheese have all been grabbed from the freezer and are defrosting for a veggie lasagne.
Also grabbed stewed apple and puff pastry (not hm - life is too short) for apple turnovers :D
-
Pizza! - one bacon and motzerella, one mushroom and cheese.
Because I will deserve it - another bucket of parsnips to be prep'ed this afternoon for the freezer. Brrr. :(
-
Lamb chops,mash,peas,carrots,broccoli,gravy, mint jelly.

-
Boeuf Bourguignon ala MC :nowink:, mashed pots and parsnip, runners from the freezer.
-
Tonight it's Bubble & Squeak from yesterday's left overs with bacon and egg :D
-
Home made chicken and mushroom pie from the day before yesterday, served with the spinach and leeks I couldn't find room for in yesterday's seafood and spinach risotto.
Bit of the risotto left too - likely to be tomorrow's lunch (don't throw much away here!) ;)
-
Him pizza with tomato sauce from the freezer, lovely fresh taste😊, chips of a fashion- scallops, no potatoes big enough for chips, last of the salad leaves from Christmas!
-
Stuffed marrow rings (steak mince with onion, mushroom and mustard) on buttered pots with onion gravy. Only just cooked through after over 80mins .. I'm not sure what is going on with the oven!
-
Low gas pressure - it happens here every Christmas, so bad that I bought a 2 ring electric hob so the veg water could come up to heat without lowering the oven heat :(
This morning I defrosted mince, chopped swede, onion and potato ready to make pasties, but ran out of time  so slow cooked the filling in a pan and served over mash & Brussels. It wasn't pasty but it was still tasty
-
Madcat, your marrow meals always sound delicious, reminds me of my grandma, she used to cook marrow, never had it since but I’ll let a few courgettes get large this year & try it myself.
Mumofstig pasties would have been good but I love mince & mash.
Last night I had the first of my sprouts, lovely with a 1 pot beef & potato bake.
Tonight I’d baked plaice.
-
Chicken curry!
Cheers
Aled
-
Low gas pressure - it happens here every Christmas, so bad that I bought a 2 ring electric hob so the veg water could come up to heat without lowering the oven heat :(
Oven is electric - there's no gas in the village. :( I am starting to think that the the thermostat is going. The great kitchen makeover is getting painfully close. >:( :(
Snowdrops - my dad loved marrow, so it is one of those things I grew up with. But we were rather successful with them this year. ::)
Tonight we are out for the earlier part of the evening - so the other half of the beouf bourg. from Monday, with runners and potato cakes from the freezer, or perhaps couscous.....
-
Last couple of nights has been veggie rice as I've been working late. Today was a re-run of Sunday, with leftover roast heated up in a bit of gravy in the oven, roast spuds and veg.
-
I had a cheese omelette and some salad bits - I'm feeling bunged up with cold again and not very hungry.
-
I now know who to blame for my cold then. :D We're having chicken curry and I hope it clears the nasal passages. :D
-
WI bring & share supper, I’ve just made a huge bowl of potato salad(in a vinaigrette) so if all else fails lots of that 😊
-
A fridge clearout - cold meat, various roast veggies, beetroot gratin and marrow chunks steamed in butter.
-
Pork fillet from the freezer, green beans and cauliflower cheese.

-
Steak,salad,hm coleslaw,leftover potato salad
-
Twas our monthly treat chippy tea on Friday as we were late home.
Last night was a quick re-think because we were later than planned, and some (bargain) breaded chicken breasts came out the freezer, with a tray of leeks in cheese sauce to go with some potato wedges. Phew.
-
Tonight will be more of the Christmas beef in gravy from the freezer, with roast potatoes & some of the parsnips roasted that I’ve just dug up, I’m intending on making a large tray of Yorkshire’s so there’s some for the freezer to go with yet more of the frozen Christmas beef & some cooked roast lamb that’s also in the freezer. Veg will be some of the Brussels I’ve just harvested with some carrots I pulled on Friday once I’ve salvaged them from the ravages of the carrot fly.
Off now to use up the purple sprouting broccoli that has decided to be ready & the leftover blue cheese from Christmas into a soup. Hopefully I’ll like it but I don’t like blue cheese!! So I think I’ll just put less in.
-
Pizza last night - mushroom and cheese, anchovy and motz - all with I think the last hm tomato sauce base from our tomatoes. I am going to have to buy some plum tomatoes in a tin and make sauce ...
Tonight is beef (and lots of veggies) casserole from the slow cooker, with little potatoes cooked in it.
-
Last night was sausages cooked in the oven and a load of plot veg. Potatoes boulangere with Kifli spuds, spaghetti squash warmed in the oven with butter and black pepper, plus wizard beans from the freezer.
Tonight is veggie curry :)
-
Tonight is the other half of the chicken, bacon & mushroom pie from Saturday( I told hubby it was too big & would have made 2,but no!) will be mash left from then & the usual veg suspects I expect.
-
Macaroni cheese with garlic bread to use up the last of the goats milk in the fridge and the odds and ends of the Christmas cheese.
-
A beany shepherd's pie with a cheesy potato topping, green beans to go with it.
-
Quiche (another bit of fridge clearing - we are all at it! :D )with runners and wedges.
-
1 of the fish pies I made on Friday & put in the freezer.
-
Rest of yesterday's shep's pie for me ::) I'll try for different veg though - to stop it from being too boring :D
-
Last night was the other half of the beef casserole, with sprouts which was a bit same again too. Nice though.
Tonight is cold ham from the freezer, with beetroot gratin, the last of the kale (suffered badly from the snow collapsing the brassica cage) and some potato wedges.
-
I've made a thick stew in the slow-cooker. 2 chicken legs which I couldn't separate yesterday, so left to defrosted and added to the pulses that were soaked overnight, plus carrots, swede, onions, garlic and a few wrinkly tomatoes
It has smelt lovely all day while it has been cooking - it was, of course, necessary to keep tasting it ::)
:D
-
Boulangere potatoes with a piece of salmon on top for the last 15 minutes, peas, sliced tomato & for me some spicy salad leaves that I bought last Friday & are still ok!. Pud will no doubt be yogurt & fruit.
-
Another set of marrow rings - this time on buttered charlotte slices and stuffed with spicy pork mince (think garlic, ginger, chilli). Onion gravy has been requested.
-
Sea Bream with mash, peas and coleslaw.
Minipot trifle for pud :nowink:
-
Hm pizza(we’ve decided it needs to be smaller as we keep wasting the leftover pieces,we think we’ll eat it in the next day or so,then don’t & by the time we realise it’s too late for the freezer) salad for me & chips for him.
-
We've had to do that too. But it helps to reduce the calories consumed a bit. The diet approach is just not to cook quite as much or serve quite as much, so there is a bit less on the plate. Then when we have got used to that step it back again. The problem is the tendency for quantities to drift back up ...
Anyway, tonight is a pork, leek and apple slo cooker, with little potatoes cooked in with it. If it stops raining I might fetch some sprouts, otherwise runners from the freezer.
-
As the weather is so dire, I'm thinking of cooking a batch of pasties - one for tea, some to freeze.
There's some mince in the freezer, plus I've still got loads of Christmas cheese, so might do a few cheese and potato as well as the usuals :)
-
Sausage hotpot & like madcat if it stops raining I’ll fetch sprouts from the plot if not will be last weeks broccoli from the fridge( thinking about it I’d better use it up,so that’s saved me a job 😄)
-
Fridge clearout chicken noodle soup bowl. I used shark's fin melon strands instead of proper noodles. Very nice and even more filling than noodles. Not sure how that works, but I've noticed that every time I have eaten it in various forms. It just feels like you have eaten something way more substantial than veg ???
-

Sounds interesting,do you fancy sharing the recipe in your other thread on the sharks fin?
-
Snow! Scratch plan A, I'm not heading down the plot for parsnips!! So, cockle warming required ....
plan B - it will be marrow vegetable korma, with rice and perhaps some papadums on the side.
-
I had a chicken in the freezer in case it was needed over the holidays ::) So got it out to defrost yesterday.
Will have it roasted today, but it will last most of the week in various guises
I'm determined not to do any more shopping, except for milk, for at least another 2 weeks... by then I should be able to defrost the freezer ::)
-
Roast chicken here as well, depends which one of us cooks it as to what we have with it,but I think there’s a parsnip lurking in the garage from my last harvesting trip.
-
Looks like it's chicken all round as that's what we've got as well. The only homegrown veg will be beans, either runner of broad which ever I meet first when I stick my head in the freezer.
-
Tonight it is the other half of the pork casserole, with sprouts. It has stopped raining long enough to retrieve, with some parsnips.
-
Cold chicken here with the roast parsnips & sprouts I too harvested in lovely sunshine, with the leftover veg & potatoes from yesterday plus lovely gravy, oh & a Yorkshire pudding from the freezer.
-
Cold chicken with baked beans on a jacket spud, couple of celery sticks :D - CBA again!
-
Pork stir-fry and veggie rice. Apple and loganberry crumble for pud :)
-
Last night was roast venison sausages with roast veggies (pots, parsnips, onion, apple and squash) and onion gravy. Good and simple after a trying afternoon.
This evening will be a cheesy squash, leek and potato dauphinoise. Not exactly classical or lo calorie, but suitable for such 'orrible day! :)
-
Last night was sweet & sour chicken and the rest of the chicken is cooking in a mushroom sauce for tonight with veg and what's left will go into small pies for the freezer. It did well
-

It did! Carcasse for stock to finish off? :D :D
-
It did! Carcasse for stock to finish off? :D :D
It's gone in the freezer, I collect a few before I make stock ;)
-
Dhal with lots of veggies, rice and yoghurt. Curry munchies hit so it had to be done :)
-
Toad in the hole was asked for tonight and as I always do as I am told from he who has to be obeyed (raspberry blowing there) duly produced. Tomorrow will be haggis , tatties and neeps in true burns traditions.

-
It was pork loin chops and apple sauce, with jacket and sprouts ... doesn't sound thrilling but was nice.
Tonight will be beefburgers, mash and the last of the sprouts. That will be the end of the brassicas for this year. :(
-
Cheese and Mushroom Tagliatelle with some salad bits :)
-
This thread always makes me so hungry (and so jealous)!
We've got rabbit stew, with mashed neeps and tatties, and cauliflower, Brussels, and carrots.
-
More of the Christmas beef in a hotpot, & very nice it was too.
-
I think it is going to be ham, chips and coleslaw.
It definitely is not going to be parsnips. The wee beasties were eating them on the plot, so OH has lifted them all and I am getting them in the freezer/into a clamp today. Utterly sick of parsnip!! ::)
-
Chicken curry & peshwari naans,rice
-
Spicy beef and bean stew from the freezer, with some fresh veg added and served over rice.
-
Had soddages, mash, cabbage and onion gravy :)
-

Fish pie with plot grown parsley & sprouts, maybe pub if there’s more to pick when I go for the parsley 😊
-
Sausage casserole (a bit of a veg rack clear!) with little potatoes cooked in it - all in the slow cooker.
-
Noticed that an Uchiki Kuri squash has a 'dodgy' patch starting, so I'll stuff it with savoury veg rice and roast it.
Blitz the leftovers for soup for the freezer. :)
-
Chicken pot pie tonight. I'll make the filling, but the puff pastry is shop bought.
-
Chicken crumble,mash, sprouts.
-
Cold ham, beetroot gratin, roast charlottes and buttered marrow chunks. Pretty!
-
Cheese on a jacket spud with coleslaw and celery sticks.
-
Got two heads of broccoli from the bargain section yesterday, so broccoli cheese with flatbreads tonight. One of OH's favourites.
The stalks will go in a broccoli and ginger soup for tomorrow.
-
Out to a friends for pizza & salad & im doing the pud so we’ve got a chestnut meringue ice cream cake, the bigger of the 2 in the photo, the little one went home with my granddaughter after she helped to make it.
-
I've got tomato/veggies bubbling away, some for a veggie lasagne tonight, some for the freezer for another day :)
-
we’ve got a chestnut meringue ice cream cake
That looked fantastic 8)
I'm debating either a layered aubergine dish of some sort (got bottled grilled aubergine slices in the cupboard from last year's harvest) or a curry  Maybe curry tonight and the bake tomorrow - now that sounds like a plan :D
-
It did, didn't it! Ah puddings .... <dreamy face>
There is already a chicken and cabbage casserole in the slow cooker, for after a busy day. Just rice to add.
Dont forget in your planning that tomorrow is Yorkshire Pudding Day. I am not being allowed to forget it!
-
Thank you tbh it wasn’t that good, I think I should have taken it out of the freezer for an hour before serving, we had to suck it thawed lol, plus I should have tasted the chestnut cream filling, it needed a bit more sweetening, plus it tasted a bit powdery, friends seemed to like it though.
-
Today it's a Shirley Valentine tea for me - 'chips and egg' :D
Love that film ;)

-
I'm a bit curry obsessed at the moment. Last night was spicy baked chicken and veg with dhal and rice.
The leftover chicken and veg are going into a stir fried rice for me when I get home from work. It will be late and freezing cold by then after a long shift, so I'm looking forward to it already  OH has a lasagne in the fridge to bake off when he gets in.
-
Cod in cheese sauce, mash & veg of some description.
-
Latkes (potato cakes) with grilled tomatoes and bacon.
-
We're all on a potato fix then  Cottage pie for us. I've made the base and that is in the fridge chilling in its dish. Mince, loads of veg and a thick gravy sauce.
It must be the weather, but mashed potato and gravy seems very appealing today :D
-
I've got a sausage, cannellini bean, swede, onion and potato topped hotpot in the oven - it's a real dual purpose meal.
Having the oven on low, keeps the kitchen from getting too cold, so the bread can rise and I can eat both later - Result!
::) :lol:
-
Late back yesterday, but there was homemade houmous in the fridge mmmmmmm :) Not sure today yet - I'll decide later.
-
Sirloin steak, boulangere potatoes, salad, fried mushrooms, glass of vino colapso.
-
I've got one of those Cajun chicken spice packet jobbies.
You put the spice in the oven roasting bag and coat the chicken, then add rice and veg and bake. I bought it ages ago, to try, and noticed the other day that the use by date was rapidly approaching
So here goes  I've also got salad bits to go with it :)
-
Yesterday was crispy black pepper tofu and veg over rice, followed by apple and raspberry crumble.
The tofu was home-made - sounds complicated, but its easy and you get a much better product than I can buy locally, as almost everywhere just stocks Cauldron tofu, which I really don't like.
Today I'm using the last of the fresh pasta dough from the freezer and doing a veggie lasagne. OH has been away camping all weekend and has eaten nothing but meat by the sound of it, so he's getting a detox
-
It was going to be pasta as my daughter and three grandsons are due here for half term but on checking her booking found she had booked on the 2am instead of 1400, we had been surprised at how cheap it was! She forgot they use the 24 hour clock.
So the pasta will wait for another day as the only booking she can now get is the 1800 and the boys will be too tired to eat then. I expect Paul and I will have a jacket potato and something from the freezer.
-
A potato topped veg in cheese sauce bake thing  - or to put it another way peppers onions and cauliflower cheese, with a mashed potato top

Found a small Romanesco at the plot today, so I'll make cream cheese, garlic and Romanesco penne pasta :)
-
Chilli and fixings yesterday - guacamole, sour cream and hm spicy wedges.
-
I'm bunged up with another cold, so last night was leftover roasties from Sunday's dinner and some coleslaw. Think I'll just bung some bacon bits, beans and veggies in the slow-cooker for tonight.... you can tell I'm enthusiastic about it can't you ::)
-
Beef mince & that’s as far as I’ve got, no inspiration.
-
Fish and chips tonight, bought on the way home. The smell drove me mad in the car until I could get them home and onto a plate

-
Pork chops and something for us this evening. Quite what the 'something' is, is a mystery right now!
-
Gammon steak, baked beans and mash :)
-
Veggie lasagne last night. Tonight I am working late, so I may just pick something up on the way home. The snow has arrived, so I may well be trudging back in it in need of chips
-
Chilli con carne, rice and garlic bread, that should warm Paul up as he has very little heating in the shop.
-
Cod Portuguese & mash, cauliflower,carrots,peas

-
Good old sausage and mash :Dit hits the spot after being at work all day,rib stickin food that keeps you warm
-
Chicken & ham pie again(I made 2 ‘individual ones on Saturday that were big enough for 1 between us!), leftover mustard mash, might use up the cauliflower with a cheese sauce.
-

-
Baked trout with boulangere potatoes, peas, carrots, maybe a slice of the freshly baked loaf I keep getting wafts of lol
-
Last night was a bit of a scratch affair as I didn't get to the shops. Soddidges and plot sweetcorn from the freezer, plus spuds from the shed.
I'm in late tonight so OH has quiche and I dunno about me yet
-
We are having black pudding omlette,i know it sounds strange but it is really nice, using our own eggs, but sadly we have to buy the black pudding,my mom used to make it much better than any shop bought stuff.

-
Family are coming today, so I'm roasting a spicy spatch cocked chicken with peppers, onions and potatoes. Bowl of salad to go with it.
Last night I made a sponge to fill with raspberries and cream for pud.
-
No idea, I think something is afoot as there was no mention of getting anything out for dinner & as it’s Mother’s Day I thought I’d wIt & see what happens, though I’ve just spied hubby with milk & yeast so maybe he’s going to make some naan breads🤞
-
Last night was roast chicken thighs, roast potatoes, veg and spoon standing. Tonight was seafood pasta with salad. I'm veering between winter and summer menus here
-
Last night I made curry with the chicken leftovers, to night? Thinks..
I've got salad bits to use up so maybe make a quiche.
-

-
Simple pea and spinach pasta, with grated Parmesan.
-
Cold chicken, with savory rice (added onions, garlic, squash, peppers, chopped toms ... that'll do!).
-
Just made the base and got the potatoes prepped and blanched for a veggie curry later. I'll add spinach to it as it reheats. Naan and yogurt both in stock, so happy days :D
-
There's a meatless chilli simmering atm, and yes mine will also include some spinach ::)

Last night it was the other half of a beef casserole, with steamed pots and runners from the freezer. I really didnt want to leave the fireside for long!
But today I need to get a bit more in gear. So chicken and mushroom pie to be created for tonight, with roast veg (while the oven is on!) - something like potatoes, squash, parsnip, onions.
-
Yesterday I needed to use up Filo pastry from the freezer, so made Spanakopita with peas and lemon roast potatoes.
I had some more of it today with baked beans :D - That turned the CBA fairy away pretty quickly
-
We were both late in yesterday, so cheese on toast, hm chutneys and salad.
-
Early evening meeting today - so big lunch (other chicken pie) and then it will be toasted sarnies for supper when we get in, whenever that is!
-
Pork, cider and apple casserole - working on using up apples from store! - with runners and rice for last night.
Tonight will be squash, cheese and potato dauphinoise again. I need to use up the cream and the squash. Fortunately it is a OH favourite.
-
Mince and mash, with Brussels and peas, yesterday.
Today is HM spicy chicken and rice from the freezer, will use up some of the salad bits with it :)
-
Spanish style chicken bake I hope unless hubby thwarts me. Might get salted green beans ready out of store, they do need rinsing very very well.
-
Paul wasn't feeling very well yesterday and came home from work early and went straight to bed. I put the pie I had prepared in the freezer and made myself fish fingers and chips. Paul came down after a two hour sleep and said the smell of chips had made him hungry after all so I ended up cooking a second lot. He woke up today with a streaming cold so now we know what was wrong.
-
Get well soon Paul :)
Pasta bake for us tonight. I was going to make apple crumble, but the tub of frozen apple I got out of the freezer turned out to be frozen veg. Yes, I know ... labels would be helpful ::)
-
I had some chilli from the freezer on a microwaved jacket spud with some grated cheese on top. Salad bits on the side.
-
Roast chicken dinner tonight with apple crumble for pud. I've checked and it is apple defrosting this time ;)
-
Chicken casserole with cabbage and carrots, there's choc icecream if I fancy some for 'afters'
-
Roast lamb, with roast potatoes, peppers, onions & garlic left over from last nights tea, peas, freshly picked psb(didn’t think there’d be any more,) Brussels, swede & carrot mash, spoon standing, gooseberry & mint jelly.
More of the bread & butter pud from yesterday
-
We've both got the 'lurgy' so what is the best thing that has no particular taste but is hot and filling? Spag Bol. We can't taste anything but it will fill us up. We had roast beef last night and both admitted to slathering on the horseradish sauce as it was the only thing we could taste.
-
Nobody else eating tonight? Lol
More of the lamb in gravy tonight with mash, carrots, peas & for me psb & sprouts
-
Been away and got back last night, so it was potato cakes from the freezer, with eggs and a few mushrooms. I now have to go and inspect the contents of the fridge ...
-
Sausages, cauliflower cheese for me & mash for him
-
Tray bake of chicken, spuds, onion, garlic, peppers and mushrooms.plus the last sweetcorn cobs from the freezer.
-
Lasagna from the freezer with green beans and for pud, some of this year's rhubarb in a crumble :D
-
Leeks in cheese sauce with jacket spuds last night. Easy eats before a meeting (in the pub!)
For tonight, I need to put a pork casserole in the slow cooker - a big vat of it to do two nights! Onions, mushrooms, garlic, carrot, tomatoes.... Best get on with it then!
-
I was late in yesterday so had ham sandwiches and tomato soup, which was actually a lot better than it sounds
Pulling a late shift again today, but have had a late lunch/early dinner of potato and pea curry, rice and lassi :)
-
I'll put some effort in, today.
Raw chicory salad with apple, gherkin, dille and a vinagary mayonaise completed with some salt en fresh grinded black pepper. Together with little potatoes for my husband. Some broccoli and red cabbage. And a tiny piece of previous made and frozen beefstew with rosemary, garlic and thyme sauce/gravy.
-
Well I knew we’d be busy helping our son knock out a chimney breast today so I took out 2 portions of a lamb tagine style thing I’d made a few weeks ago. When I got back from clearing up round there hubby had put it in the le creuset with potatoes on the top. I did some extra peas, carrots & broccoli & job was a good one.
Tomorrow it’s steak & kidney pie 😊
-
Last night was stuffed (beef mince with onion and wholegrain mustard) marrow rings on buttered potatoes, with gravy natch.
Tonight, leek and wholegrain mustard (hmm.. must be a train of thought there!) pasta bake, with a crunchy cheese topping.
-
Well the steak & kidney, onions & celery are in the slow cooker with 2 cans of Mackeson & some whole grain mustard(it’s catching madcat 😅) & some English mustard too. Pastry to be made this afternoon.
-
Pork steaks, garlic roast potatoes, green beans and spinach tonight.
-
Out and about today, so it will be the other half of the pork casserole, with buttered marrow and steamed pots when we get in. We will need something hot by then I suspect - the sun might be bright but the wind is cutting.
-
I cooked a family dinner of Good Friday - Butterflied leg of lamb, roast potatoes and carrots, cauliflower cheese and the last of my preserved peppers. Then baked sultana stuffed apples and served with Ice cream for pud. Yesterday I had leftovers from that meal ::)
Today I've a big saucepan on the gas, with the bone and hock I removed from the lamb leg, pulses and veggies to go in later. (The bones were too big for the slow-cooker, but at least the kitchen will stay warm today for breadmaking lol )
-
I postponed the Easter roast until tomorrow, when it is forecast to be pouring down all day and I won't mind being in the kitchen for ages.
Tonight I am raiding the freezer for pie I know is in there, plus the shed for spuds and the fridge for whatever veg I put my hand on first
-
Well our lunch/dinner went ahead as per the Easter meals thread, all enjoyed it except little granddaughter who fell asleep(not well) about 1/2 hour before it was served up. She had some later but was just not fussed over anyth8ng today or yesterday, hav8ng almost fallen asleep on my lap during yesterday’s steak & kidney pie, the puked it up at 9p.m on her sleepover 😥😥, so Grannie is a tad weary this evening.
-
We uninvited ourselves from PIL as we felt it wasn't very good to take this bug with us and we really weren't interested in a big meal. Jacket potatoes with cheese had and that was an effort.
-
Roast lamb, roast potatoes, proper gravy and veg. Plot fruit fool with fruit from the freezer for pud - pink currant and loganberry, which was fab even though I say so myself
-
Yummee. Its been ages since we had roast lamb ....
We are on potato and squash gratin, which is hot and tasty and comforting for a 'orrible day. A Bank Holiday Monday that really lived up to its reputation.
-
Tonight's planned stir fried beef (which OH was going to cook) has had to have a rethink - when the defrosted meat turned out not to be 1/2lb of beef strips, but 1lb of diced turkey thigh. Seems that the original bag split and was over wrapped with a bag that had previously done duty with the beef ... and been washed I hasten to add!
So in the slow cooker with have turkey in sweet and sour sauce, with pineapple, pepper and carrot. Half for tonight with rice and the other half for the freezer. Prawn crackers on the side.
-
I had cauliflower cheese from the freezer, with carrots, peas, tomatoes and mash.
-
Salmon with orange, ginger & chilli, savoury rice
-
Leftover lamb made into a curry.

-
Last night was lemon chicken (slow cooker again!), with roast veggies.
I'll strip the chicken today and tonight will be chicken, mushroom and leek pie with the bits, steamed pots and runners probably. Carcass back into the slow cooker to make stock.
-
I'll be at an allotment meeting later, so going to put a chicken drumstick and lots of veg in the slow cooker, ready for when I get back. Bread making today to go with it :)
-
Baked plaice for us today with potatoes of some sort & the usual veg.
-
Well we had 'pot luck'. I found several chinese takeaway type containers, all un marked (!) at the back o f the freezer and decided three of them would do with a jacket potato. Turned out to be left over fish curry, chillied chicken and succotash. Didn't taste too bad as a a combination plus cleared a bit of 'junk' out of the freezer ready for this years 'bumper' crops. :D
-
Last night for us was cold chicken, with beetroot gratin topped with slice potatoes, and runners.
Tonight is the other chicken and veg pie, with roast veg (pots, parsnip, squash) and the last of the beetroot gratin. The rest of that squash will be in the spicy carrot and squash soup for tomorrow lunch .... Amazing how one thing leads to another to another etc. :D
-
Meatballs in pepper/tomato/garlic sauce over penne pasta with PSB on the side :)
-
Last night was Lebanese chicken, which I saw whilst browsing online the other day.
Stupidly easy, but tastes like you have spent ages prepping it. Peeled spuds and chicken pieces with seasoning, grated garlic and a sauce of 1/4 cup olive oil and 1/2 cup lemon juice poured over. 30 mins in the oven at 225c with foil over it, 30 mins at 245c with foil off. A lot of the oil remains in the dish when you take the chicken and potatoes out, so you can leave it behind if you don't want to eat it.
I steamed some green veg to have with it :)
-
Well might be the cooked lamb I took out of the freezer on Friday along with some cooked beef, forgot to leave a note for hubby to use the lamb for a hotpot last night, he used the beef lol. But I’m just about to go out to a new Sunday market called the Sunday munch in Hinckley which advertises itself as being local produced foods & goods, so think farmers market, craft market, flea market rolled into one. So if I see something more interesting we might be having that 😊

I also got some beef topsides bargain from the co-op yesterday. Cut in half and frozen with the exception of one half which is going in the slow cooker shortly as a pot roast with onions and red wine and .....
Roast veg and frisbees, spoon standing to go with slices of the beef later. The cooking liquid and veggies will be the basis of a nice beef stew for Friday - how much actual beef it will see depends on how it slices.
-
Yesterday was lamb (last few bits of the Easter roast from the freezer) in a spicy vegetable and tomato sauce over rice.
Today is roast chicken with the last of the Sarpo Axona from the shed as roasties, plus veg and spoon standing. I''m contemplating a pud as well. Maybe a fruit mousse, as we have plot berries of various sorts in the freezer :)

Pouring with rain and lots of eggs in the fridge - time to make some quiches and icecream! And strain the redcurrant gin I made last year, ready for the heatwave to return.
I like the sound of that gin, I suppose you could use blackcurrants too?
Hubby didn’t fancy a trip to the fish man this morning so it’s steak & kidney out of the freezer with a pastry top, whatever veg I can muster, ooh just remembered I’ve got some cabbages about ready
-
I like the sound of that gin, I suppose you could use blackcurrants too?
I've put the recipe for the gin over on the recipes section as gooseberry gin ( the fruit from making that gin then goes into the most lovely ice cream... waste not want not! ::)) http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=126045.0 (http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=126045.0) The redcurrant is the same quantities and process.
Not sure how it would work with blackcurrants - I use them to make cassis with brandy. Would be worth a try ....
-

-

Yesterday, I prepped lots of peppers, red onion, courgette, and green beans, and a tin of drained new potatoes cut up, and chunks of red onion, added some chlli flakes, a sprinkle of ginger and smoked paprika, and a dessert-spoon of tomato puree. -
Going to be a fridge tidy savoury rice tonight - last bits of bacon and gammon, with some sad mushrooms and onion and garlic and ....... :nowink:

Today I'm cooking a Moussaka with courgette instead of aubergine, sadly I'm still buying the courgette to go in it and the salad to go with it ::)
-
Last night was a Nigerian recipe - pork with pumpkin - somewhat adjusted. ::) I left out the green beans because it was becoming a bit much and used winter squash rather than pumpkin and the slow cooker... Let us call it inspired by the recipe .... :D It was okay, but needs more work. Some chilli would lift it a bit I think.
Tonight is the other fish (salmon, pollack and crabsticks, with green beans and sweetcorn in the parsley sauce) pie I made in the week, so I should have lots of time to play out this afternoon!
-
Salt & pepper ribs, stir-fried veg and rice. Pud was strawberry mouse made with strawberries from the garden :D
-
Pork and mushroom in soy sauce (already in the slo cooker), stir fried veg, rice .... and collapse!
-
Chicken drumstick tray bake tonight and more strawberry mousse for pud :)
-
Tray bakes are getting a bit of a habit because they are so easy, pork chop on mine today :)
-
Pork chops on a bed of broad beans cooked with onions and herbs, plus new potatoes :)
-
Last night was breaded chicken steaks with beetroot (from the freezer) gratin and oven wedges. Easy, but not as quick as hoped.
Tonight it will be hm lamb burgers, with mash and green beans Mmmm .. redcurrant jelly and onion spoon standing on the side will be required too. ::)
-
Last night was turkey, leek (only bit that was home grown) and sweetcorn pasta bake.
Tonight it will be gammon, runners (from the freezer, better get them eaten as this yrs are starting to flower) and I'll use the leftover pasta bake (amazingly without any turkey left in it! ::) ) as the carbs for OH. A bit of salad on the side for me.
-
From the freezer, leftover cooked pork 'bits' will be turned into a curry, plain rice, chutney and the usual salad bits to go with it.
-
I was late back yesterday so we ended up with fish and chips.
Tonight will be the chilli I had made in advance for yesterday. I did try and tell OH reheating chilli and cooking some rice would be just as quick as a trip out to the chippie, but he seemed to have a need for chips
-
but he seemed to have a need for chips
Mmmmm... Empathise with that!
Thai style chicken meatballs tonight (I opened the freezer, stuck a hand in, grabbed a package and then worked out what to do with the resulting bag of mince. ::) One way to make a decision!!), in a tomato, squash and chickpea sauce. Rice on the side for OH, who is finding losing weight much easier than it is for me! :(
-
Leftover over martini roast chicken from Friday with whatever we can be bothered with, there’s another 3 nice cabbages on the plot if I can muster up enough energy to go & pick them
-
Got a quarter of a chicken to roast, with potatoes, cabbage and the first of the allotment snap peas :)
-
Broad beans, courgette, onion and garlic from the plot and fresh herbs from the garden, stewed with tomato and chilli. Grilled pork loin steaks and crusty bread to go with it.
-
Yesterday as supposed to be salmon, but turned out to be trout! With the first plot grown new potatoes, broad beans from the plot & peas & carrots
Tonight it’s lamb rogan josh & rice for me & for him chicken & Parma ham.
Can you tell I’m clearing the freezer? Lol
-
 Doing much the same!
Yesterday was cod parcels (cooked in foil with lemon and parsley butter) with a big green salad (all our own leaves at last! yeh!) and couscous for OH.
For tonight I am filling the slow cooker with a beef bourguignon. To be served with runners (last years still!) and bread for OH to mop up the gravy.
-
Tonight was a bit of a cop out - breaded chicken fillets (bargain from the freezer) with beetroot (last of last years from the 'clamp') gratin and runners (freezer again). Pittas for OH, again from the freezer. ::) What would I do without that great huge white chest??
-
Yesterday was soddages, mash, peas and French beans with spoon-standing, today I have chicken thighs defrosted overnight for traybaking with potatoes and mixed Mediterranean type veggies, Greek lemon style.
HG Gooseberries in a crumble for pud :D
-
BBQ tonight, so there is gammon defrosting, chicken thighs in a marinade chinese style, veg and hallomi spikes planned. Pitta for him on the side. This sunshine is wonderful ...... but I cant say the same about the watering! ::)
-
BBQ for me to. Invited to Daughter and S-in-L, so don't know what the grub is, but they live next door,(the other side to my Mum) so its not far to go. Hope you all enjoy this evening. Mrs Bouquet
-
Roast belly pork & gravy & Apple sauce. Hg cabbage & broad beans. Carrots & roast potatoes
Then a lovely strawberry tart with French pastry & creme patisserie made by hubby
-
Frittata with plot broad beans, cheese and lots of green leafy herbs from the garden, plot cabbage made into coleslaw, a green salad with plot lettuce and hm sourdough bread :)
-
Pan fried bacon, onions and potatoes with green beans and tomatoes, plus the rest of the goosegog crumble :)
-
Steak & kidney pie with plot grown new potatoes with mint, cabbage & broad beans, was a bit hot for it tbh.
We’ve decided on salmon for tomorrow
-
Spinach (aka beetroot tops!) and egg curry, pitta (almost a naan!) on the side for him. Its very quick to make and (surprisingly) didn't feel too heavy and hot.
-
Last night was grilled mackerel fillets and various homemade sides - potato salad, green salad and coleslaw.
That was about the limit of the cooking I was prepared to do and even then I regretted turning the grill on within moments of doing so
-
Going to be ham, lightly braised greens and ???. Crispy roll for OH on the side. I just need to think of a second veg that takes next to no cooking and I actually have.
-
Burgers and salad here. I have cukes and shallots, so I might do a quick pickle by marinating slices of each in sushi vinegar ( my latest favourite ingredient for instant pickles) :)
-
It's so hot I'd even eat a salad :D
I suspect it's more likely going to be beans on toast though as there's no way I'm going to put the oven on !
-
Turkey rissoles(not made rissoles for years- needed to use up some cooked turkey leg from the freezer), salad & new potatoes & baked beans for him.
Last of the strawberries with pl yog for me

-
Chicken leg tray-bake, salad on the side.
HG strawberries and cream, lush :D
-
Thai style pork meatballs in tomato and broccoli (stalk) sauce, with bread on the side for OH. I forget how long it takes to make meatballs and cook them ..... :(
-
Yesterday, large oven tray full of Mediterranean vegs etc with lots of garlic. I Had it with Five Chinese Spice Chicken pieces. I always do enough for 2 days, so tonight the same, but cold with slices of corned beef.
Mrs Bouquet
-
Yet another cold salad-based meal but I do love them, although I wouldn't mind fish fingers, beans and chips sometime soon!
-
When you go for the chips and beans, can I come please   Mrs Bouquet
-
Minimal cooking going on here the last few days, but there is only so much salad that I can eat. Tonight is going to be dhal with new potatoes and shallots, rice, mint raita and poppadoms :)
-
Yesterday I made a chilli con carne, today the leftovers had more plot veg added to make a Minestrone, with a Co op mini-baguette :)
-
Hubby was given 2 fillet steaks as a gift on Thursday so those, ovenchips & salad
-
Brown rice pilaf with lots of veg, plus grilled fish fillets with garlic and chilli :)
-
Lamb kofta kebabs and chopped salad in pita bread with tzatziki - cos I've got cucumbers growing like crazy :D
-
Fried Chicken goujons, freshly dug Duke of York spuds, peas, carrots, broad beans, blob of mayo.
-
There's a Greek-style courgette, spinach and feta pie in the oven, a few wedges and naked slaw to go with it :)
-
10 or maybe 12 M and S Choc. (had to, won them in a raffle today :)) Followed by 2 slices of toasted bread with raw cheese. 1 small Choc ice, and an Apricot. Yer, yer. Naughty but nice, as they say. Back to nearly perfect tomorrow. ::) Mrs Bouquet (confession is good for the soul :D )
-
Roasted chicken thighs,new potatoes,salad
-
Last night was stuffed veg. Courgettes from the plot, peppers bought - both filled with beef mince, onion, herbs and rice and baked in a tomato sauce. Crusty bread on the side.
-
Brown basmati rice, with roasted veg and a few bits of chicken in it. Mrs Bouquet
-
We have been away for a few days and this morning's allotment inspection came up with some surprises. Marble sized globe courgettes when we went are now the size of onion squash!!! 2 of them. So I too will be stuffing veggies .... but one will do two of us for a meal. And then there are the dwarf french beans and the flat french beans and the runners and the salads .... ::)
-
Salmon fillet with new pots with some sugar snaps, dwarf French beans and broccoli accompanied by a Hollandaise sauce.
-
It will be chicken noodle soup - hm stock with the last bits from the chicken, noodles and oodles of veggies!
-
Chicken tray bake with plot veg :)
-
Piri Piri pork chop with HG Pink Fir Apple spuds, cucumber and tomatoes plus a grated Trashco carrot ::)
Raspberries with squirty cream for pud :D
-
Beef stew from the slow cooker, with red wine, onions, the shallots that wouldn't keep after lifting (surprisingly few), carrot, lentils, (overgrown) globe courgette ......, runners on the side. And a chunk of hm whole meal bread for OH, whose diet is going better than mine. :(
Tonight will be ham salad ... which sounds a bit dull, but I will fill the salad bowl with a good mix of stuff from the plot.
-
The rest of last night's quiche with home grown salad and you WILL have some sugar snap peas with it. Home grown new potato salad as well with homegrown chives.
-
My neighbours are BBQing - it smells delish :tongue2:
I've made myself a cheese sandwich as I forgot to bring my dinner back from Mother Lards this afternoon :( I just can't bring myself to eat it, it's not even a nice cheese
-
Pork chop a la George Foreman, with the first HG beans and peas with a buttered jacket potato. Splattered the veg with a little mint sauce and it was lovely :)
-
Putting some chicken drumsticks in the slow cooker with lots of veg. It can cook dinner quietly all day and I don't have to get hot and bothered later!
-
Lasagne yesterday with plot courgettes, beef mince and of course melty bubbly cheese :D
Not sure about tonight yet, other than it will feature chicken thighs :)
-
It's chicken tonite!
I've got thighs defrosting as well and madcat's slow-cooker idea sounds a good'un ;)
-
The rest of yesterday’s roast lamb, with leftover new potatoes sliced & fried, might be salad as I’m too hot & bothered today
-
Some new spuds from the garden and sausages pork i think very nice mix, with plenty of butter on the spuds, whoops is that bad :lol:the fat police will be after me,well i have lost 12.5kg since the hip operation,so i deserve a treat :).
-
,well i have lost 12.5kg since the hip operation,so i deserve a treat :).
You do! I need to lose that, but I don't think you would be recommending what you have gone through!!
I think it will be duck and veg soup here; there is chicken stock in the fridge, I have just found a little packet of cooked duck in the freezer and there is loads of veg. OH can get a chunk of wholemeal bread to go with.
-
I fancied ham, but 6 slices of 'proper ham' not plastic ham, was £2.99 and then I looked a kg joint to roast myself was £4.99.....erm I decided on the joint :D Just out of the oven now, with honey/mustard on the outside.
Salad and a crusty roll to go with it yum!
-
I think like you, MoS.
I usually buy a smoked gammon joint and do it in the slow cooker for about six - eight hours. Either covered with coke, or with a good couple of handfuls of dark brown sugar in the bottom of the slow cooker, then the same patted onto the top of the joint - no liquid required - and leave it to get on with it.
I don't eat meat, but my husband, son and brother love this, either with new potatoes, peas and parsley sauce, or buttered potatoes and salad or just in sandwiches. There's always loads left to slice and pack up in the freezer for more sandwiches, or baked with sliced new potatoes, onions and white sauce.
-
Thats how I do one, jaydig! Come to think of it, it has been a while .... Hmm. Inspiration strikes.
Meanwhile, it was (Co-op bargain) sausages and roast veg, plus lots of runners here tonight, with cheesy mash (a freezer find) for OH.
-
I am sitting here drooling at the gammon ideas (and the sausages!). Sadly I am not allowed, gammon, bacon etc, I have to restrict my salt to 2gms a day. I had stir fry, only veg and noodles, it was horrid. Back to salad again tomorrow. :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Chicken salad last night, but got curry munchies today ;)
-
Lump of (bargain Co-op yesterday) pork shoulder in the slow cooker, with lots of veg. Avoiding the hot'n'bothered later on! :) To be served sliced with salad later. The veg will get the ends of the pork joint and magically become pork casserole tomorrow or the day after. :nowink:
-
Lemon sole with samphire & new potatoes
-
Burgers and salads tonight. OH asked hopefully for oven chips, but he got burger buns instead.
-
As part of the diet I'm gently shifting our main meal to lunch, and making tea lighter. So last night was pork (stock) and veg soup, served over noodles for OH. Burgers were at lunchtime, with new pots and salad. He didnt try for chips! In fact I think I would be slaughtered for chipping his new pots.
For tonight I have the first marrow (yes, it is a marrow and not an overgrown courgette! ::) ) so I will stuff slices of it with lamb mince, mixed with lots of onion and herbs. Served with gravy, and couscous for him.
-
I really must have something hot - although last nights 4 scones with sugar free blackcurrant jam was scrummy.
Chicken Kiev, Dwarf beans, side salad. Mrs Bouquet
-
I really must have something hot - although last nights 4 scones with sugar free blackcurrant jam was scrummy.
Chicken Kiev, Dwarf beans, side salad. Mrs Bouquet
Sounds good to me! :D
But using that for inspiration, I think there are a couple of breaded chicken fillets in the freezer. I'll put them with some courgette wedges in the oven (round courgettes) and more beans!
-
Well I was out for lunch & lovely it was too, hubby as going to make pasta but I’m still too full, so he’ll have a treat of bacon, egg, chips & there'll no doubt be baked beans. Me I might just have a yogurt or an ice cream lol
-
Pork, noodles and veg but chilled as a salad. It is too warm for hot food here today
-
Same as the last two nights - Toast and Pate - I'm not going to buy anymore, too much for 1 person. :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Yesterday was salmon fillet with coleslaw and salad, today is scampi plus the same salads :D
-
Rib eye steaks, tomato salad, coleslaw and crusty bread :)
-
Cod loin in tomato & onion sauce, sliced fried potatoes, variety of dwarf beans
-
Lamb burgers and grilled courgette, green salad. That sounds healthy! Pot salad on the side for him ... although he might put in an application for the potatoes to be fried ....
-
I've got lamb meatball :D The bottom of a Tromba squash got damaged in the storm last night, so brought that home to go with the meatballs. Sliced in Parmesan breadcrumbs may be the way to go
-
Home cooked ham with my marmalade topping, steamed potatoes, carrots, medley of beans & little courgettes fried in olive oil & butter with garlic, breadcrumbs & Parmesan. And since it’s Saturday a strawberry tart each from Sainsbury’s 😊 ooh & glass from the bottle of merlot that I was given by my plot neighbour last night
-
Curry munchies have struck again .... veg korma, beetroot curry and rice for OH tonight. Good for a cold wet day ....
-
Mmmmmm curry, but tonight's plans are already set. I made salads yesterday (bean, coleslaw, tomato) to go with pork loin steaks. We have the leftovers tonight with crusty bead and whatever OH finds or takes a fancy to at the Co-op later. My money is on sausages or burgers, but as I am working and it will be tea in a hurry when I get in, anything will be good :)
I have curries in the freezer though, so we could have them tomorrow. But I also have lamb mince in there and courgette fresh from the plot, so meatball and sliced fried courgette in parmesan breadcrumbs has also caught my eye
-
I've got a lot of veggies at the moment, and a cool day for the oven to go on for bread, so I'm thinking of a nice thick Minestrone and crusty bread or cheese topped rolls with it :)
-
Hmm the me n u says turkey & ham pie, but just come back from the plot with a washing up bowl full of courgettes, some not so small! Eek. Minestrone soup sounds good but only got beans to go with it so maybe not. Might need to go & get cream cheese for my courgette & cream cheese soup, it freezes well, but then might need to persuade our son to switch his other freezer on & let me use it!
-
.... but then might need to persuade our son to switch his other freezer on & let me use it!
Bribery and ice cream corruption?? :nowink: Amazing what the promise of some ice cream can do. I've got the recipe for some dark chocolate and beetroot icecream that I am soooo tempted to try. Think of the colour!! But no room in the freezer.
Anyway - I have cabbages splitting their round heads and beans that need picking (not sure that the french beans are going to do a lot more, the rain has come too late for them), so I think chicken and cabbage cass (the one with the golden syrup) with mixed beans.
-
curry munchies here tonight so chicken korma with naans and rice. Jacket potatoes planned for tomorrow as I have to go out and they can be in the oven on low.
-
A chicken leg with runner beans and peas, both from the plot :)
-
Special treat as I'm feeling sorry for myself - a cabbage.
It may get some mash put with it but I doubt it. ;) It will have some salt and pepper and a goodly dollop of colmans english mustard made fresh from powder not the instant stuff.
-
.... but then might need to persuade our son to switch his other freezer on & let me use it!

Haha no, he’s become a health & fitness freak, having lost 4 1/2 stones since last year!
-
Frozen soy yogurt so doesn't have the same bribery appeal!  On the other hand - 60+lbs!! Respect!!!!
Tonight we will be back to curry - spinach (actually beet leaves) and egg curry, with rice for OH.
-
Curry here as well (at last!). Tamil nadu mince and a plain dhal are defrosting ready for when I get back tonight. I'll add veg to the dhal, do a cucumber and mint yogurt and buy some poppadoms at some point of the day.
-
I've got haddock cooking on top of a layer of veg in the wok. Green beans and carrots to go with it.
Lots of plot veg cooking today :D
-
There is a chicken cooking on top of a layer of lemon (heaven only knows how long they had been in the salad drawer) in the slow cooker. Sauteed courgette and steamed cabbage to go with, plus some crusty rolls for OH.
-
Roasted vegetable lasagne with home grown aubergine, courgette and tomatoes :D
-
Going to be cold chicken with runners, beetroot gratin and potato cakes (from the freezer) for OH. Easy peasy. I'm thinking about some beetroot and chocolate brownies while the oven is on ..... ::)
-
Last night was pork stir-fried with plot greens over rice.
Burgers tonight with plot sweetcorn and coleslaw with plot cabbage :D
-
Last night was cold chicken, with hg calabrese in cheese sauce, sauteed yellow courgette, steamed cabbage, and a few steamed little potatoes for OH.
Tonight it is the stock from the lemon chicken, with shredded courgette and carrot and red pepper, over noodles for OH. I'm well sick of this diet!!! ::)
-
Steak & kidney pie(assembled from the freezer), steamed freshly dug Charlotte’s, carrots, plot green beans & cabbage, with roasted courgettes with some supermarket peppers. Not bad considering I thought we hadn’t got much veg.
Gooseberry fool to follow for me
-
Been good today - Beef Mince balls, flattened out as I fry them off. All colour peppers, Spicey Arrabbiata Sauce (from a packet) all in the slow cooker. Shall do some sort of pasta later. That's enough for 2/3 days.
Mrs Bouquet
-
Last night was a Madhur Jaffrey recipe for small aubergines cooked in spices, just because I had grown enough to make a dinner for two and wanted to celebrate the fact
Pilau rice and a nectarine, onion, cucumber and coriander salsa on the side :)
-
Back home after a few days away - being wicked on the eating and drinking front. So roast chicken tonight with veggies tbd. No carbs for me and no wine for either of us. :(
-
Look away now Madcat
OH is off on a hike today preparing for one of his adventures, so carb fest planned for tonight with calzone (folded pizza like a cornish pasty but different). There will be salad as well and a glass of vino collapso for me :)
-
Last night was mince in gravy on plot veggies. Today I'll eat the fish I bought to eat yesterday (It's ok it was frozen) - it was out of sight out of mind yesterday ::)
-
Err ... invitation to BBQ yesterday lunch changed plans, so it was a light salad tea!
So tonight is the chicken and roast veg .....
-
Roast beef, yorkies, runner beans, carrots and asparagus(reduced to 40p in the Co-op). Also cooked a reduced in price cauli and had one floret each tonight and plan tomorrow is cauli cheese with garlic bread from out of the freezer/
-
Spicy spatchcock chicken, with peas some salads and wedges.
-
The plan was for roast chicken dinner - but the CBA fairy came round this afternoon, so that's off. Im currently contemplating if it's too much effort to make egg and chips :nowink:
-
Spinach (aka leaf beet) and egg curry, with rice for OH. Nice and simple!
-
Steak, chips, & salad with a glass of red
-
Left over chicken with gigandes beans in a tomato sauce, salad on the side.
Then fancied something sweet, so HM raspberry jam on a couple of crackers (oops!)
-
We had roast pork on Sunday, so tonight is using up the remains in some way. I was working until silly o'clock last night, so just had toast when I got in. I want a decent meal tonight, so off to the plot in a bit to see what I can gather and formulate a plan while I go ;)
-
Left over chicken here, so doing a stir-fry with plot veg for tea. The last of the chicken will also be curried and frozen
-
More left over chicken here .... so cold chicken with beetroot and courgette gratin, steamed cabbage and couscous for OH.
-
Change of plans over the last couple of days. I found potatoes and cheese that needed using on Tuesday, so we ended up with a cheese topped layered vegetable bake.
Last night was a curry with the leftover pork - another fridge clearer. With that and the preserve making, I have cleared the veg glut for now and we have stocks for the winter :)
-
Beef bourguignon (sort of) cooked in the slo cooker, with bargain mushrooms and the odd dodgy/small onion from lifting the onion patch. Cabbage and beans on the side. Lots of plum puree into the freezers ...
Tonight will be the last of the chicken with calabrase (lovely stalks waiting to be picked) in cheese sauce and sauteed courgette. Brown rice for OH.
-
I really want steak and chips, mushrooms and a salad :tongue2: I'll be having a tin of tomato soup.
I managed to shatter a tooth when I banged my head the other day and the dentist can't see me until tomorrow :(
-
Bad luck Lardy, maybe next week.
Lamb chops here, steamed charlottes, carrots, roasted courgettes & peppers, all but the lamb & peppers were homegrown 😊
-
Bad luck Lardy, maybe next week.
Nope - just a running repair till October  so it's overly cooked soggy pasta, pesto and tuna. It's alright I suppose but it's not steak and chips is it .
-
It's not! And that is a long time to wait for anything with a crunch ... pork cracking, cinder toffee, gingernut biscuits .... Poor man. :(
Here the diet continues .... zuppa de zuchini (courgette soup with parmesan) tonight, with hm bread for OH. Not chips either .... ::)
-

Get the slow cooker out and treat yourself to piece of brisket, cooked to melting point. That won't be steak and chips either, but it will calm the inner carnivore and would be good for disguising soggy pasta or rice or very sloppy mashed potatoes ;)
-
Get the slow cooker out and treat yourself to piece of brisket, cooked to melting point.
Dribble - No stop it :tongue2: , it's not fair :(
I was actually going to use the lump of piggy I have in the freezer for the weekend meals, slow cooked and shredded - but I've not had the time. Plan B is for a mushroom omelette but Im stuck for a carb to bulk it out.
-
Well I hope the piggy made it into the slow cooker today as pulled pork is another good option. Too late now for the mushroom omelette ideas, but it could be mushroom fu yung another time with rice or noodles.
We had curry last night. Tonight was salt and pepper wings, wedges, sweetcorn, coleslaw and salad - spuds, corn, cabbage and tomatoes all homegrown.
-
Had plot sweetcorn, coleslaw with plot onions and cabbage (bought carrots though) and a tuna fillet :)
HG tom and cuke on the side as well :)
-
Roast lamb, with plot grown carrots, green & yellow beans, carrots, Charlotte potatoes, all steamed, hg cauliflower cheese with roasted veg-peppers,the rest hg courgettes, aubergine (prize winning lol) shallots, garlic. Gravy, red vino colapso, hm gooseberry & mint jelly
-
By request I put some chicken and chorizo in the slow cooker earlier but it's not ready yet, normally Id wait for it to be ready but I'm seriously hungry tonight so I'm raiding the freezer for anything nukeable.
-

Don't forget to pierce the cellophane :D
Veg curry tonight but first poppadums and pickles including a new tomato one Val's created which is to die for. She told me if I ate it all I would die....
-
I went to the Co op to get some milk, I must have been in a can't be 'asked' mood as I came out with a curry 'ping' meal as well as the milk  (It's really not something I usually do )
Served with some salad and HM chutney, it was ok ......
-

And repeat, minus the vino 😀

Nothing wrong with a ping meal occasionally - or sausage, egg, chips and beans with white bread and butter for the butties. Only thing to decide is red or brown sauce!
Psst - just ignore snowy the show off :D
-
This is one I found and tried when I got back late yesterday. It is quicker than a ping meal and surprisingly good. I ate it with toasted doorstep bread, but you could bulk it it out with rice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvlhb6elqq4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvlhb6elqq4)
Don't judge me until you've tried it. I know a recipe that starts with frying ketchup sounds pretty horrendous, but it is tasty and makes a meal out of almost nothing
-

Dare I admit to liking ketchup on cooked tomatoes? :)
Never would have thought of combining eggs and tomatoes though.
-
Don't judge me until you've tried it.
It's badly fried eggs with stewed tomato. Even sausage, bacon, mushrooms and black pudding couldn't save it ::)
I had the chicken and chorizo with couscous, it was rather meh - lacking a veggy ( like a courgette :nowink: ) and taste in general. My ability to cook really has gone to the dogs. Mind you the waitrose chicken vindaloo I had last night was shameful and the notion it would serve 2 even worse.
I suspect there will be a grilled cheese and onion sandwich in my not too distant future.
-
I defrosted a haddock fillet and made a cheese sauce for it, peas, carrots and cauli to go with it :)
-

I dunno, sounds lacking in something... I got it, fried bread, toast and tea :)

Miaow,miaow 😂
-

You are supposed to be stir-frying the tomatoes over high heat and then making a sauce, not stewing them ::)
it was rather meh - lacking a veggy ( like a courgette :nowink: )
Now that is just plain reckless  You could be on the end of an avalanche saying that in front of plot holders
Anyway, another late night yesterday so ended up with tuna salad sandwiches, but I would have made the tomatoes and eggs if there had been eggs in the house :tongue2:
Reading Festival week and our lift at job no.2 has decided to start playing up. All the storage is upstairs so it meant us carrying stock downstairs for an hour or so yesterday. Not fun :( I could have done with more than a sandwich, but it was too late for anything heavier.
-
We often double cook and freeze so home made ping meals. Some things are hard to cook for two so half one day and the rest two days later. Hearty soups freeze well too. But I can well understand that after a long hard day even a sandwich is an effort.

Freezer surprise again - need the space for tomato sauces! ::)
The surprise part is due to the not always very legible labelling on my part - last night it was spicy pulled pork (probably - definitely remember cooking it some time last winter!)
-
I dunno, sounds lacking in something... I got it, fried bread, toast and tea :)
You missed the hash browns out (not had those for years!) but you're on the right track. I do miss fried food. :(
Now that is just plain reckless  You could be on the end of an avalanche saying that in front of plot holders
Im having to buy tinned ratatouille bring it on ! :tongue2:
Tonight was a repeat of last night and it wasn't any better today , Mother Lard enjoyed it though, so I'm left with the conclusion I have broken my taste buds.
-
Completely void of ideas tonight. Settled for a bit of pasta with some sliced cherry toms (I'm drowning in them this year :) ) a drizzle of olive oil and some freshly grated parmesan cheese. Nice lunch, not really a dinner.
I'm feeling the need for something covered in spoonstanding gravy for over the weekend.
-
I'm feeling the need for something covered in spoonstanding gravy for over the weekend.
Proper gravy - one slice or two? :)
Sausage, poached egg and chips, bread & butter, tomato ketchup - followed by ice cream. Total comfort food. Val spent the afternoon making more of her tomato chutney.
-
I had some pan fried chicken with broccoli and mashed spuds, a bit boring but the CBA fairy was hovering, so I didn't think I did too badly, considering ::)
-
We had lasagne with the courgette and tomato sauce on Wednesday. Last night was a late finish, so cottage cheese, salad and bits. OK but a but meh.
Another late one tonight, so who knows ::)
-
There are going to be chips, and eggs and mushy peas, some sweetcorn and a splodge of ketchup .
I think we can all agree who's fault it is. :nowink:
-
Stuffed mini-marrow (aka yet another courgette I turned my back on!)
-
There are going to be chips, and eggs and mushy peas, some sweetcorn and a splodge of ketchup .
Sounds good to me! :)
Daughter is bringing meals on wheels to her old Dad now.. a lovely Indian dish; rice, beef, potatoes, carrots with lovely flavour. Sadly her Indian neighbour who showed her some of the recipes has returned to the home country of Leeds. Poppadoms and pickles with it as well although I didn't need the 'burn your mouth out chili' pickle with this one.
-
Bolognaise from the freezer with homemade pasta
-
Roasted plot spuds and beetroot, sausages and hm sauerkraut made with plot cabbage.
-
Roasted plot spuds and beetroot, sausages and hm sauerkraut made with plot cabbage.
Sounds very nice indeed :)
-
Grilled soddages and tomatoes, with peas and spicy wedges :)
-
I need a plan B.
The pork joint has been in since 10am this morning and it's still so tough I can't even shred it  (it's a waitrose one too - not exactly cheap) I'm going to be really disappointed if I end up having to mince it.
Looks like I'll have to break out the emergency pizza.
-
Hope you get something edible sorted, Lardman
We're on roast chicken with veg & spuds tonight. :) And we had had an expensive lunch out in an American restaurant. Place was full of kids though so we didn't linger over coffee. Might even go again in another couple of years.
-
Roast chicken here too, stuffing, steamed hg carrots,potatoes-Charlottes still, mix of French beans, & courgettes & tomatoes baked in a little chicken juice with a topping of breadcrumbs with Parmesan & some lovely gravy
-
We are on roast chicken for lunch (working later), but last night we went out for a meal with friends. We discovered our favourite local Indian restaurant was now doing a buffet on Sunday. Hmmmmm, but let's give it a go.
It was actually very good with a choice of 9 curries of various heat levels, veggie sides, plus rice and naan. All full of herbs and nicely spiced. Result :D
-
Hope you get something edible sorted, Lardman
By the time Id added peppers, chillies, onions and extra cheese to the pizza it was passable as food. ;) although I would rather have joined New Shoots.
The pork was finally shreddable just after 9pm , it's still chewy even after 11 hours - I'll not be buying that again! I wanted a meat and 2 veg meal so that's what I'll have. Waiting for the roasties at the moment to complete the roast piggy dinner, with the works. Finally a meal without a tomato in sight ::)
-
More roast piggy dinner :tongue2: - mash, no roastie tonight though and the mixed veg have had to be supplemented with sprouts (frozen shop bought) as ocado had run out
Do they still make Jamaican Ginger cake ? a noggin covered in thick custard would finish things off nicely, must be the weather. ::)
-
A couple of soddages, onions cooked in the sausage fat, peas & corn with some baby potatoes :)
-
Do they still make Jamaican Ginger cake ? a noggin covered in thick custard would finish things off nicely, must be the weather. ::)
Yes they do :)
-
Late night yesterday, so chicken salad and flatbreads when I got it.
Tonight is a lasagne with homemade tomato sauce and whatever I can forage from the greenhouse and pick off the left over roast chicken from Monday. There are some aubergines and possibly a pepper or two, plus more tomatoes, so I could make some roasted veg to pad it out.
As long as it is covered with golden melty cheese, OH will be all smiles ;)
-
Back from 10 days at a festival (5 days to build, 4 days of music etc and 1 day to tear it all down again!) so you can imagine what we found at the allotment!   Let's start with a veg korma for tonight (ie overgrown courgette plus), lemon cuc in yogurt and rice for OH. Then tomato pasta sauce for the freezer .... Plum puree ditto ....
-
Steak & kidney pie, steamed Charlottes, carrots green bean & cabbage (all hg 😊) lovely gravy. More fruit crumble in a mo, just what we needed after all our hard graft turning our old fish pond into a smaller wildlife pond with bog gardens.
-
Steak & kidney pie
Puff, rough puff, shortcrust or suet? :tongue2: mmmm pie. :tongue2:
I finished off the piggy and all the veggies in the freezer  which feels a good excuse to defrost it before shopping day, I'll have to get creative with some pasta tomorrow.
-
Steak & kidney pie
Puff, rough puff, shortcrust or suet? :tongue2: mmmm pie. :tongue2:
Rough puff is fine but for a cold winter's day it has to be suet :)
Tonight: super sausages, colcannon and French beans. :)

Puff pastry(bought ready rolled) being a skinflint yorkshire lass, I’ve taken to buying ready rolled & dividing it up in to the size of my pie dish(rectangular) I get 4 I think from I sheet, I use 1 to top my pie for that night, then place the others in greaseproof paper & freeze flat before bagging them up. I cook a 3/4 lb batch of the filling in the slow cooker, then when cold divide it up in to portions for the 2 of us, freeze & then I get 5 or 6 pies for little effort, weeks for me 😊, plus I use the pastry for other pies I.e chicken or chicken & ham, turkey . Great for busy days.
-
Last night was a HM minted lamburger (from the freezer) with baked beans - CBA fairy was here again ::)
Today I've a lt of milk to use up so cheese sauce over pasta and broccoli - excess sauce for the freezer :)
-
There is some bacon that needs using, so I think I'll make a couple of quiches this afternoon. One for tonight with green salad, the other can go later in the week. (The man I have bought my eggs from for the last errr ... 15 ? years has given up his hens after having a lot of eggs stolen. Now what am I going to do?? )
-
... (The man I have bought my eggs from for the last errr ... 15 ? years has given up his hens after having a lot of eggs stolen. Now what am I going to do?? )
That's so sad - 2 legged vermin
Have you thought about getting hens yourself? They're easier than cats! :)
-
Now what am I going to do?? )
Get some hens - You really won't like going back to 3 week old shop bought ones, they're nasty.
Im not feeling much like pasta tonight; so it's rice pudding, slightly sweetened and with a goodly sprinkle of nutmeg. Tomorrow I shall be spending many hours scrubbing the slow cooker pot - worth it ::)
-
That's so sad - 2 legged vermin
Have you thought about getting hens yourself? They're easier than cats! :)
Erm... no thanks. They wont take kindly to being left for long periods, which is why we are cat-free at the moment after our last old lady died. The allotment is a bit more forgiving!
My slow cooker is out, with a joint of pork sitting on lots of lovely veg and bathed in cider. Sliced tonight with calabrase and courgette in cheese sauce, steamed cabbage and a few charlottes for OH. Then cold tomorrow and the last bits chucked back in with the veg as a pork casserole. 3 meals in one slow cooker - what's not to love!
-
Lots of veg, stir fried with sweet chilli sauce and rice
-
Plan A : Cheesey jacket potatoes and any green stuff I can find in the GH. That's been scuppered as the milkman didn't leave the spuds this morning.
Plan B : Errmmm something not needing spuds. Yes I've had all day to think of something or go to the shops or defrost something but I honestly CBA. Plain pasta anyone ::)
-
Salmon, with cheese sauce( hubby was cooking!) steamed potatoes, carrots, green beans, sweetcorn.
Apple pie & ice cream
-
We had a mixed veg curry last night with poppadoms and pickles. Val likes mild curry so I added a big dollop of chilli pickle to mine. Anyway, overdid it and whilst the mouth loved it the tummy was griping until 3am :(
Tonight it's rice and veg stuffed peppers with cheese. :D
Perhaps we can have steak tomorrow if I'm a very good boy!
-
I feel for you John, my tum can no longer cope with a lot of things I used to love eating. The only way I can manage anything really spicy is to eat it at lunchtime ::)
That way it's been well digested before I lay down .....
-
OH is resisting learning that lesson .. ::)
Cold pork, with coleslaw and tomato and basil salad tonight, with some steamed charlottes on the side for OH.
Update - actually it was radish and lemon cuc salad which is a very good combo, with the coleslaw and cherry toms ....
-
Lamb hot pot with baked courgettes on the side for me. Tasty but a bit similar to the turkey 1 I made at the end of last week🙄
-
Salt & pepper ribs, rice and stir fried veg.
-
Due to lack of inspiration & much of a choice in the freezer today will be sirloin steak, what with no idea, but if hubby has anything to do with it it will be chips, might need to harvest a few maincrop then.
-
Having had a sort out in the fridge ... ::) ... it will be quiche and green salad tonight, with rolls for OH.
-
Defrosted the freezer yesterday expecting to find something tasty lurking in the back. Much to my dismay there was nothing of any use, just a gnarled bit of ginger and a bag of frozen coriander from 2014. I had to resort to pasta again with the added excitement of a can of tuna mixed in.
It's looking like veggy rice tonight.
-
Shame you're not nearer Lardman ;)
I've got leftover honey/mustard chicken in a big pan of veg and spices and made a round of tear&share sunflower seed bread to go with it. The smell is making my mouth water........
-
I got back from the plot after some serious digging, found hm tomato sauce in the fridge and so had pasta. It was fairly early for tea and it must have worn off as I've just demolished toasted bagels as well. Enough of the carbs now I think
-
Zuppa de zucchini tonight, with fresh rolls. It is courgette soup with parmesan, but it sounds better in Italian!
-
Go on MoS rub it in why don't you ::) I've had to tinker with my menus again away so I'm back to bland, but I could probably have had the bread as long as it wasn't crusty :(
We have spuds again now, I'll be nuking one of those tonight probably with some cheese as everything tastes better with cheese ;)
-
More 1 pot lamb hot pot, tasty but a bit boring. Particularly as I was also cooking a piece of ham & a vat of ratatouille.
-
Veg and pork casserole tonight - which really is the veg base on which the pork was pot roasted, with the last bits thrown back in. Tasty, but could do with something crunchy on the side .....
-
Sounds just right for a warm handmade wholemeal roll Madcat. Plenty of crunch but with lots of soft gooey insides to soak up the sauce if not there are always yellow frizbees ;)
Something with egg noddles tonight, it was supposed to be chicken but as usual I've left it at Mother Lards.
-
Loving courgette and blue cheese soup at the mo. my husband is an addict :D
-
Remembered to bring the chicken back today :D Chicken and noddles I might even put it an a pot and pretend it's the 80's again :nowink:
-
I've got a fridge full of healthy plot veg, but what do I fancy for tea tonight? Sausages, chips and beans :D
Oh well, I did have a salad for lunch, so not a really, really bad day ::)
-
Chicken and cabbage is blubbing in the slow cooker, probably with couscous on the side for OH. Warm and comforting later ...
-
Bargain lamb from the Co-op to grill and I have onion, aubergine, peppers and tomatoes to make a nice veg tray bake. I think some rice to go with it, dressed up with toasted almonds and a splodge of plain yogurt :)
-
Back to pasta tonight in the form of mac and cheese when the nice ocado man brings the cheese, I promise to have something green tomorrow. Actually I think I'll go and add some sweetcorn to the pasta, at least that's 1 of my 5 a day. ;)
-
Good decision. Sweetcorn in mac and cheese is really nice.
Curry here. I've been digging up spuds, so all the tiddlers are in a potato curry. I'm adding spinach and cooked chicken to it as I heat it up. Yogurt and cucumber on the side, plus some naan.
-
Good decision. Sweetcorn in mac and cheese is really nice.
I've found lots of stuff goes with mac and cheese, even ML likes it messed with. I buy her these on occasion when they're on offer http://www.soulfulfood.com/our-food.html#macpot (http://www.soulfulfood.com/our-food.html#macpot) she really likes the butternut squash one and I rather like the pots they come in :nowink:
-
Beef mince, onions, swede and potato in the slow cooker - then cooked runner beans to go with. The mince and veg tasted quite like Cornish pasty filling lol
-
The mince and veg tasted quite like Cornish pasty filling lol
Pity there weren't any leftovers - you would have known what to do with them! :D
We were on spinach (aka beetroot greens) and egg curry last night, with rice for OH and a dollop of yogurt for me (it twas a tad warm - different bag of frozen chillies!).
Tonight will be southern breaded chicken fillets found in the freezer yesterday (how long have they been there?) with beetroot gratin, calabrase (there are just a few flower shoots) and something else. Steamed pots for OH.
Edit : there was more calabrase lurking than I thought! No need for another veg!
-
Sausages - found 6 lurking in the freezer. Hate cooking them. Whats the best way, so that either the oven isn't filthy and smelly, or the hob and floor splashed all over. Wish I had left them where they were. Plan to have them with red cabbage, dwarf beans and maybe some puy lentils. Mrs Bouquet

We’ve got an actifry, but too expensive just for 1 meal now & again lol.
Tonight here it will be jacket potatoes with the home cooked ham that was supposed to be earlier in the week, hg beetroot, salad, more tomatoes & maybe hm coleslaw if I think the half cabbage lurking in the fridge is up to it. He’ll be sure to open a tin of b.beans🙄😄
-
HM minted lamb burger with sweetcorn cob and runner beans :)
-

I use a frying pan with a lid (as I do for anything that might sizzle and spit excessively.) If you tilt the lid it keeps any mess inside but still fries rather than steams the food (cooks faster than with no lid too.) :)
-
After all the talk of lamb I've been forced into defrosting some lamb shoulder steaks. I'd originally bought them to do lamb tagine but I think Id rather put them with gravy, mash and veg. Not sure if I should put them in the slow cooker on low now or on high later..
-
Not sure if I should put them in the slow cooker on low now or on high later..
I'd say low now with some root veg and stock to make fall off the bone lamb and gravy. I always think shoulder meat benefits from slow gentle cooking.
I've been pondering the mac and cheese link you posted. The kinchee one intrigues me as I have a hm batch in the fridge. but I've just seen a recipe for kimchee fried rice with a fried egg on top. Tough decisions to make :nowink:

I like to grill sausages and being a bit sad use a timer... 5 mins for side 1, 4 for the opposite side, 2 mins for a side and 1 minute then switch off the grill but leave for another minute for the opposite site. Timings spot on for our grill!
If frying I also use a saucepan lid on the frypan to stop splashing and it helps cook things through. Good for fried eggs too as the top of the egg cooks in the steam if the lid is on tight.

I went the other way -It's still chewy :( I'll be resorting to plan B again.

I'd read your thread and thought that might catch your eye ;) You know my answer is always both when give a choice :D :tongue2:
-
I use a splatter guard for anything that might spit fat, both at home and in our campervan. Keeps everything clean and lets the steam out. This sort of thing https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000TAULZU/ref=psdc_3000276031_t2_B000SIU9J6 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000TAULZU/ref=psdc_3000276031_t2_B000SIU9J6) although I think mine came from the local market!
Tonight is a soup night - celery, tomato and beetroot, with rye rolls for OH. Should be a pretty colour!
-
We had lamb tonight - Texel from our fields. Hope it was the little bee who ate one of my heritage apple trees! Plus sweetcorn and French beans with roast potatoes - all our own. Also had redcurrant jelly but finished off the store bought jar first. Val made redcurrant jelly this afternoon from our redcurrants.

Haha little B. Try gooseberry & mint jelly to go with any lamb, totally lush.

It's the circle of life :D I feel the same about the tree rats who eat my apples, sooner or later it's going to end badly for them.
Deconstructed cottage pie tonight, ginger cake and custard for afters :tongue2:
-
I had plot beans, onions, garlic, potatoes, tomatoes and marrowfat peas - put them all in a saucepan with a few lamb meatballs and some red lentils - made a lovely thick soup/stew. Enough left for a few lunches as well, to go in the freezer :)
-
It's miserable weather and Val's been making chutney so not feeling like much more cooking which is great as we settled on sausage, egg, chips and baked beans. Our eggs and chips but beans by Heinz :)
-
Chicken & ham pie in a mustard sauce, steamed potatoes, carrots & some frozen broad beans & a corn on the cob for me & baked beans for him
-

SO you sat and ate all that whilst poor Mr Snowdrops just had baked beans? Cruel, very cruel :)

Got some cold chicken left from last night. Think I must try this sachet of Puy Lentils, got some chicken stock and some fresh coriander. Mrs Bouquet
-
Pasta tonight in a cheese sauce with bacon bits, chopped peppers and possibly other things depending on the chef.
-
chopped peppers and possibly other things depending on the chef.
Is Val inclined to chop off bits of her fingers, or is it bits of you she'll chop, if she's cross? ::)
-

Well I'm pretty sure tomatoes will feature and possibly some sweetcorn and French beans left over from the other night but if I'm very good no bits from me. :)
-
Really just can't be bothered tonight. Might nuke a spud if I can drag myself into the kitchen, feels like it would be a lot of effort though. ::)
-
Managed to put the fork through a fair few spuds today ::) so made 'bubble & squeak' patties some for tea with bacon, egg and tomatoes, some went in the freezer :)
-
Using up fridge bits, so tray bake of aubergine, pepper and tomatoes with lamb chump chops, rice with toasted almonds and yogurt.
-
Pork and apple burgers made by OH yesterday - mix was a bit heavy on the apple so somewhat fragile but good. Green salad and grilled toms on the side, and potato cakes for OH.
First corn on the cob expected for lunch and dinner will be the stifado which is simmering in the slow cooker. Cabbage on the side. How is that for organised!!
-
Did the Puy Lentils - delicious. Now what can I do with the other half ? Mrs Bouquet
-
More mash ::) but this time with a chilli con carne.
-
Just had the shopping delivered - I was going to do liver and onion, mash and sprouts but I've gone off the idea or at least the idea of cooking it ::) Tonights dinner is brought to you by the letter P. P is for potato and P is for Ping.
I'm not sure if it's the change in the weather or impending man flu but I'm absolutely cream crackered.
-

Or just trying to do too much in too few hours?
Chicken and cabbage crockpot coming up (have to eat those lovely! cabbages ...), with a chunk of bread for OH.
-
Got some Spagna white beans soaking, for Greek oven baked beans with salad bits and wedges. Alas no vino collapse to go with it - how did that happen
-
Really just can't be bothered tonight. Might nuke a spud if I can drag myself into the kitchen, feels like it would be a lot of effort though. ::
I feel like that about cooking every night :D Tonight sweet and sour pork which has been in the freezer for a year, potatoes are ready with carrots. Mrs Bouquet
-
Or just trying to do too much in too few hours?
Honestly I'm doing less - it's just annoying me more
Spuds are boiling for the mash and the onions are chopped. Settled on mixed veg rather than sprouts, I actually have a fancy for mashed carrots and swede  at least the mix has carrots in.
-
The aubergine plants in the greenhouse didn't like the cold night so picked all the remaining fruit today. Aubergine curry and a soy braised aubergine dish with pork made for the freezer this afternoon, so all cooked out.
Luckily there were overs, so I had the curry with rice and some stir-fried greens :)
-
Or just trying to do too much in too few hours?
Honestly I'm doing less - it's just annoying me more
Ahh ... that's age! Not only does it bring wisdom, but also less patience with timewasting idiots... human, machine or just s*d's law! :D
Tonight is pork, apple, cider and beans in the slow cooker. Greens of some sort on the side and a chunk of bread for OH.
-
Yesterdays left over, not often I don't, or can't finish off liver and onions but I was full to bursting yesterday.
... also less patience with timewasting idiots...
Funny you're the second person to say that to me today :nowink:
Tonight is pork, apple, cider and beans in the slow cooker.
Curious - as I have a lump of piggy for the weekend - what type of beans and do you thicken the cider to make a sauce, Id imagine it would be a little thin?
-
Curious - as I have a lump of piggy for the weekend - what type of beans and do you thicken the cider to make a sauce, Id imagine it would be a little thin?
It was a layer of chopped (peeled and cored) apple fallings, then soaked cherokee beans (tryout before growing - very good), but you could use butter beans or borlottis or haricot. In a pan I briefly fried off some belly pork chunks, added onions and garlic to soften in the fat. Once soft, a bit of flour to take up the fat and thicken the sauce. Cook it in then add the cider to make a quite thick sauce, as the apples will add more liquid in due course. Add to slow cooker. Finish off with more apples, and in yesterdays case, a bit of courgette and a sad tomato. Important - do not salt it until you have finished cooking or the beans will be like bullets!!! Leave to blub for at least 6 hrs (your lump will need more). About an hour before serving if you think the juices too runny, a small handful of pearl barley will thicken it nicely.
Tonight the griddle will be coming out - a couple of (not very big) gammon steaks have just come out of the freezer, with griddled courgette, tomato (see a theme here? ::)), potato cake for OH and green salad on the side.
-
Mince and onions in gravy with runner beans and cannellini beans.
This afternoon, I picked up a reduced unsmoked gammon joint from the Co op, that'll do nicely for tomorrow (and most of the week  )
-

Great minds thinks alike, MoS - I've just taken an unsmoked ham joint out of the slow cooker ready for tomorrow. Going to make a potato bake, and tray of roast vegetables to go with it.
-
Last night was one of those half the plot soups - spuds too tiny to do much with, onions too small to store, then whatever bits of harvest were there to use up - peppers, tomatoes, beans and greens. The base was hm chicken stock from the freezer and I made bread rolls to go with it. It was garnished with grated cheese from a nub end found in the fridge.
For a meal scratched together from bits and bobs it was pretty successful :)
-
Sunshine outside and a forecast of a warm evening - hold that bbq, we are going to use it one last time before it goes away for the winter! Quick dive into the freezer - couple of chilli marinaded chicken thighs, some sausages, lots of vegs for veg kebab sticks, corn on the cob fresh from plot.... don't know what else but a bottle of wine has gone in the fridge. Forget the diet, tonight we will celebrate the indian summer!
-
I've been sitting in the greenhouse with a can of Thatcher's and have just eaten cold sliced gammon, small boiled plot potatoes and naked coleslaw, Rosella toms and Mini-munch cuke from the greenhouse.
Except from the gammon and the carrot in the coleslaw, everything home grown. Perfect :D
-
We’re away for a few days & we’re near the best ever motorway services at Tebay, the farm shop is fantastic, so we had 2 pieces of fillet steak(£6 something), lyonnaise potatoes, carrots, green beans, mushrooms, toms & baby courgettes, all veg homegrown apart from the mushrooms
Followed by a selection on desserts from their patisserie oh & a few glasses of vine colapso
-
I've been sitting in the greenhouse .....naked ......Perfect :D
Erm ... that was how I read it first time ... I had to go back and try again ... such a disappointment!

Naked coleslaw ::) is that like deconstructed cottage pie :nowink: ;)
I'm back to bland again :( Spud nuking time, can't decided on tuna and mayo or cheese, both isn't an option :D
-
Naked coleslaw ::) is that like deconstructed cottage pie :nowink: ;)
You think coleslaw has to be dressed, then?
I've having more cold gammon but with a mild curried veg for a change ;)
-

Slice of game pie with lots of calabrese in cheese sauce, steamed charlottes on the side for OH.
-
Roasted veg lasagne with homegrown peppers and tomatoes, plus green veg on the side.
-
Sausage, egg and chips followed by apple crumble and custard :) Real comfort food for a dark and stormy night.
-
Hm pasta with bolognaise, shop bought garlic bread(not very good, you forget how good your own bread is
-
You think coleslaw has to be dressed, then?
Obviously - and if it's somewhere nice, like the greenhouse a shirt and tie is required
Pasta tonight with tuna as last night's cheese didn't sit too well. Added bonus being Max will happily eat the leftovers :nowink: ::) Honestly anyone would think I didn't feed the poor sole.
-
Apple and stilton soup, with bread for OH. Keeping it simple ...
-
Lump of topside is in the slow cooker in a bourguignon sauce, just needing some sliced mushies added nearer eating time. Well, it would be bourguignon except I just found the bacon that should be in it still in the fridge. Hey, who loves a purist! ::) Steamed beetroot greens and charlottes 4 OH.
-
Jacket potatoes, coleslaw, salad leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, scotch eggs, quiches. Last night of a few days away so finishing up things including various colours of vino colapso lol
-
Veggie rice. Filled a hole but nothing to write home about.
-
I was babysitting tonight and got a lovely hot chicken biryani made by my sprog. Gave me a chance to try out my experiment which I'm calling John's Evil Hot Chilli Pickle as well :) Best of all, grandsprog didn't wake up so a peaceful evening in front of the telly with 2 moggies fighting for prime spot on my lap.
-
Last night was cold beef with beetroot gratin, roasted tomatoes, steamed pakchoi and some charlottes for OH. That was good ... gratin is definitely my favorite way with beetroot!
Tonight will be a summer pork casserole from the slow cooker - otherwise known as a veg drawer clearout! Couscous for OH on the side.
-
Last night was steak, salad and hm bread. Simple but really good :)
Tonight is going to be roast chicken dinner.
-
Well, I got drumsticks out of the freezer last night, intending to cook them in a barbecue sauce..... but looking at the weather ::) I've decided to put them in the slow cooker with loads of veg and lentils.
I may even go drastic and make some dumplings
-
Roast leg of lamb, with honey and rosemary jus. new potatoes, carrots, broccoli and cauli. Mrs Bouquet
-
Cooked lamb & stock from the freezer, which will be used to make a roast lamb dinner, there are even yorkie puds in the freezer too😊 will be with roasties & maybe roast parsnips (freezer) freshly pulled carrots, green/yellow beans& maybe what will be the last of the courgettes.
-
Thai style turkey burgers, with griddled tomatoes and courgettes. Green salad, and some steamed charlottes for OH.
-
It's a lamb weekend by the looks. Lamb rump steaks in a balsamic and mint crust (waitrose reduced but almost good enough to pay full price for  ) with new pots, pea and green beans.
-
The last zuppa de zucchini tonight. :( The courgettes are gonnas.... The top of the workshop was white this morning!
-
Soy braised aubergine and pork, noodles and stir-fry veg.
-
Steak, chips 'n' peas with tomatoes and garlic mushrooms. And lovely it was too :)
-
Mixed leaves (pak choi, chinese leaves and beet tops) braised in soy, stir fried veg (courgette, stalks from the pakchoi, carrot, cashews, onion) with spicy sausage. Noodles for OH. Very tasty, better than expected for a bit of a scratch meal.
Tonight I am getting a beef in red wine stew into the slow cooker to get on with it. Cabbage and steamed spuds to be added later. I might do dumplings instead of the spuds .....
-
Not sure exactly what except it will feature sweet potatoes as I have some to use and plot greens. Hmmmm a plot for veggie curry slowly forms as I have just remembered there is yogurt in the fridge and naan in the cupboard :D
-

That's terrible, keeping your poor nan in the cupboard. There should be a law against it! :)
-
Tonight it was the remains of the cooked lamb I took from the freezer on Tuesday made into a hotpot. Most welcome after an afternoon of heavy gardening.
-
More making space in the freezer needed for tomato sauce .... ahh a bag of last years leeks! Right, chicken and leek casserole. Pity I didnt do this last night and soaked some beans ... this year's borlottis should come up quickly ..... Couscous on the side.
-
No idea as I’m orf out, & hubby decided he didn’t want the shepherds pie so I guess since he took bacon out the freezer he’ll be having bacon, egg, chips & beans lol
-

What a tricky one.. shepherd's pie or bacon, egg etc. He'll be off work with stress having to make choices like that. :)
Beef stew or lobby and dumplings bubbling away in the kitchen. I daren't ask but either will be nice after a day playing lumberjack outside.
-
Pasta.. sans flavour. ::)
-

Lol he’s had to retire after a lifetime of tricky decisions like that since he was 14 😂
-
Last night was a HM chicken curry from the freezer, a roll likewise and some chopped tomatoes, cucumber and onions from the plot :)
Tonight? I'm thinking about putting a load of veg/pulses in the slow-cooker and leaving it to do it's thing
-
Going to be back late, so I think I'll leave a veg noodle soup ready just to be heated through when we fall through the door.
-
Nuked a spud. I promise to have something green tomorrow ::)
-
Fish, chips, mushy peas large, bread and butter and a tea :) Who needs to go out to them fancy restaurants when you can have the same at home!!
-
You also need a dedicated wife who is a good cook, John! :D :D
Tonight we are going to have a picnic tea, after a long walk and before going to a gig. We are going to be wiped tomorrow!
-
Last night, cooked broccoli in dish with olive oil drizzled, then cooked jacket, cut open laid over top skin side up, chucked on a few cherry tomatoes, and grated cheese. Delicious.
Tonight going to a charity bingo night, which includes a ploughmans (more cheese) Mrs Bouquet
-
Egg, chips, beans, tomatoes and some warburtons white bread and butter (shop bought bread tastes like cotton wool  ). Washed down with some fizzy 4% stuff, I think they call it lager :nowink:
John's fault - I shall be cursing him tomorrow, twas good though :tongue2:
-
HM Lamb burger with runners, carrots and spoon-standing.
I made a small coffee and walnut cake and ate a piece for pud :)
-
Last night was pasta bake with hm tomato sauce, courgette gifted by a plot neighbour, peppers and lots of melty cheese :)
Not sure today. Probably a mini roast, but got to freezer dive to find a likely candidate - I know there are chicken pieces in there, but a change would be good :)
-
You also need a dedicated wife who is a good cook, John! :D :D
That she is! :) I'm not useless in the kitchen but she's far, far better than I am except at cooking sausages and omelettes. I'm also better a peeling potatoes. (grasping at straws now)
John's fault - I shall be cursing him tomorrow, twas good though :tongue2:
Sorry about that. We had risotto with a pork chop last night.
-
Spatchcocked chicken with a barbecue coating, small roast potatoes, runner beans and calabrese.
Coffee walnut sponge for pud.
-
Well yesterday's plan got dumped when I got a text that the gig was cancelled. So stuffed marrow it was, with a crunchy cheesy topping, buttered potatoes for OH cooked round the marrow rings.
Today's menu is mixed greens braised in soy sauce (beetroot leaves, cabbage, sorrel and pak choi), stir fried vegs with spicy sausage and cashews. Noodles for OH.
-
Beef stew, part 2 (last night with herby dumplings, tonight with dumplings and mash, tomorrow with fried leftover mash... I really like my home made stew!!)
-
Left over chicken in the slow-cooker, with the pan juices, fresh veg and some pulses to thicken it up a bit.
Sunflower and honey bread, also leftover from yesterday. Easy peasy dinner :D
-
Griddled pork loin chops, with calabrase in cheese sauce (OH has just gone to pick it!), baked tomatoes, steamed charlottes. Mmmm ...3 different ways of cooking, not good. I think the potatoes are going to become boulangerie style and go in the oven too.
-
Sorry about that. We had risotto with a pork chop last night.
That doesn't really have the same appeal :nowink:
Trying some chicken in a peppercorn (if I can find them else just peppered) sauce, mixed veg and saute pots done in the oven without fat  might turn out well, might not. At least it's not pasta or a nuked spud :D
-
Hadn’t defrosted anything so I had a look round & we agreed on roasted tomato & basil soup followed by apple pie. I also made mince pies 😱😂 & a batch of jam buns for an event tomorrow
-
A veggie curry with the last of aubergines and
chingachgook er.. squash :) Poppadumdums and loadsa pickles which I'll pay for later. There's lovely, it was.
-
What was left of yesterday's casserole will be a curry by tea-time :D Probably making bread later, so may also do flat-bread to go with it. I've gone off rice a bit lately ::)
-

:D
I call our onion squash "uchy coochy" squash because I never can remember their proper name! Uchiki kuri ..
Veggie curry here tonight too. There is definitely a theme. :) :) Rice though.
-
We had rice, but with spicy tray baked pork chop and veggies :)
-
Got a serious case of the CBA's today. Tinned spaghetti hops on toast
-
Chicken and cabbage going in the crockpot. That will be easy later when the CBA fairy is going to come visiting ... How she gets round us all some nights I dont know   :)
-
Haddock is defrosting, parsley sauce, peas and carrots to go with it :)
-
Freezer cottage pie with fresh pulled carrots, mix of green & yellow & purple beans, few mange touts 😊 gravy made from last Christmas beef stock that I found lurking in the freezer.
-
Bangers and mash, onion gravy with fresh French beans, calabrese. Comfort food.
-
Put some diced beef in the slow cooker this morning - it's still there waiting for me to make a meal out of it ::)
I really wish potatoes peeled and mashed themselves :nowink:
-

Come on, it takes just a few mins to peel spuds - forget the fancy peelers, this type has served me for many, many years. https://amzn.to/2P5tYB3
You can even get a version for left handers!

Nothing is ever that simple here ;)
Example, and I'm sure any dog owner (especially staffie will back me up on this) My trip to the kitchen will mean passing a currently sleeping Max, but he's not sleeping he's waiting with his eyes closed.... the cost of safe passage is at least 5 minutes of belly rubs, some ear scratching, several who a good boy's? and a tug of war contest until he wins. Once tribute has been dutifully paid, I will be free to enter the kitchen - not alone though. Doggy biscuits are kept in the kitchen, so there can't be any reason for me to be going in other than to fetch him some. These must be hand fed 1 at a time until the biscuit after I tell him they're all gone. At this point he will retire to the kitchen doorway, just waiting. Getting back out is equally as challenging :D
Spuds were drained at 20:49 - I think just an hour was pretty good going tonight :nowink:
-
Nothing is ever that simple here ;)
I stand very corrected :)
-
Aubergine and beef mince curry with plot greens, spicy yogurt and naan. I blame you lot for setting off curry munchies
-
Nothing is ever that simple here ;)
I stand very corrected :)
It wouldn't be so bad - but the kettle is in the kitchen too
Leftovers tonight, already plated so they just need to go ping .
-
Trout fillets atop of sliced potatoes with onions baked. ( trout courtesy of neighbour who went fishing yesterday. Will be with carrots & green /yellow beans
-
Tomato and goats cheese clafoutis with green salad. The salad is an excuse for a walk to the plot! Light and tasty.

You are one big softie!!!!
-
Chicken normande (ie in apples and cider, finished with cream) is in the slow cooker using a pack of drumsticks I found in the freezer, mixed greens on the side. There are some little potatoes in the sauce for OH....
-
Pizza night here (homemade as is the norm in chez snowdrops made by Mr S ) salad, oven chips & a glass of Shiraz, then a treat from Sainsbury’s,strawberry tart.
-
Here it's a jacket potato, apple and cabbage slaw and a couple of hard-boiled eggs. Simple and tasty :)
-
You are one big softie!!!!
Sssshhh don't tell anyone - I have a reputation to protect ::)
Jacket spud and cheese tonight as the milkman left some stooopidly huge spuds.
-
Mince, onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, tromba squash and sliced potatoes in a layered Moussaka-type bake with cheese topping, salad side. Only the mince and cheese were bought :)
I felt quite pleased with myself when I realised!
-
I found an 'emergency' bottle of black bean sauce in the cupboard (only a bit - ish past its BBE date... ::) ) so it is in the slow cooker with some pork and extra veggies. Very easy dinner, just add rice for OH later!
I suppose it is nice to know I haven't had an emergency in two years to need it .... I don't think it will be replaced! :D
-
Leftovers - chilli and rice.
-
Mince, onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, tromba squash and sliced potatoes in a layered Moussaka-type bake with cheese topping, salad side. Only the mince and cheese were bought :)
I felt quite pleased with myself when I realised!
Great feeling isn’t it, I made a mixed bean salad to take yesterday for a bring & share lunch at our sewing day workshop, I put in, borlotti, cannelini, ying yang, broad, French- yellow, green & purple & runner beans....all home grown. I was rather pleaded with myself.
Tonight it was Spanish chicken & chorizo bake
-
Clear the fridge soup tonight, with noodles for OH. Have to have a clear out occasionally ::)
-
Pasta - Don't really want it but I need to use the pesto up otherwise it will be furry.
-
Toad in the hole, thick gravy, swede& spud mash, steamed carrots & mix of various fren beans & mange tout, baked leeks. Filled a hole it did so 😊
-
Pinched one of ML's "breaded cod fillets" which looks suspiciously like a large fish finger to me  Mash, peas and sweetcorn.
-
Meals on wheels (the sprogette) has delivered a chicken biryani, made to an authentic Yorkshire recipe, for me. SIL describes it as the biryani that bites back! Poppadumdums and pickles to go with it. Val will not be partaking as she doesn't like hot spicy food. Really looking forward to eating it. :)
-
Left over Spanish chicken bake
-
Veggie curry followed by pie with apple and quince, plus cream as well. I blame Lardman and MoS. OH was too busy wolfing it to care
-
Had a mooch along the beach today so prawns , spoots and scallops in a sweet chilli sauce on noodles !
Not an easy meal but very tasty ! :)
-
Bacon steak with last few green beans from the plot, tomatoes and oven chips :)
-
pie with apple and quince, plus cream as well. I blame Lardman and MoS. OH was too busy wolfing it to care
I'm ok with that  I am on a one man mission to restore the humble pie with apple back to legendary status after its years of synthetic sweet isolation in the commercial wilderness.
There was supposed to be leftover mash for today but the spuds turned to mush in the water last night  so plan B is tuna in a jacket unless something exciting jumps out at me.
-
Had a mooch along the beach today so prawns , spoots and scallops in a sweet chilli sauce on noodles !
Not an easy meal but very tasty ! :)
did you forage them all?
-
Chicken tray bake tonight and will be trying one of the Tablegold squashes I grew this year. Leftover pie for pud :)
I am on a one man mission to restore the humble pie with apple back to legendary status after its years of synthetic sweet isolation in the commercial wilderness.
A noble cause  I can recommend the addition of quince though ;)
-
At this moment in time - no blinking idea :nowink: Mrs Bouquet
-
At Chez Snowdrops it was a slow cooked turkey drumstick made into turkey in red wine & orange, with roasties, steamed carrots, mange tout, green beans, baked leeks. Shame Mr S was unwell & missed it
-
Shame Mr S was unwell & missed it
Did you have to eat his too? :) Sounds too good to waste ...
Chicken tray bake here tonight - 'cos it is raining and I'm not minded to go and pick leaves in it! Squash etc are already in the house... ::)
-
No I saved it in case he got up & wanted it. He got up again but didn’t. He’ll have that tomorrow as I’ve gone down with the bug now, so tonight it was oven baked cod, oven chips,& peas, v.small portions for us both, as I sat down to it I commented it was the pensioner’s special lol I’m not a pensioner 😊
-
Very small portion of lamb mince (found at bottom of freezer!) cooked in gravy and poured over bigger portions of cabbage, carrots and French beans
-
Last night was bacon chop, Kifli boiled spuds, broad beans in parsley sauce. Childhood classic :)
Tonight it's chicken korma which is a bit bland for me but the addition of my evil chilli pickle should perk it up.
-
Tonight hubby is getting his share of the turkey in red wine & im having the other half of a aubergine parmigiana that I made for my sister & froze the half she didn’t eat. Easy meals are what’s needed whilst we’re suffering with colds
-
Easy meals here too - but mostly 'cos the CBA fairy is fluttering around and it is 'orrible out there!!.
Apples onions and cider in the slow cooker with some pork and prunes, bread on the side.
-
It was supposed to be a pork chop, mustard mash and cauli/broccoli cheese but I came down for a serious case of the CBA's around dinner time. I'll nuke a spud next to I venture into the kitchen ::) .
-
I've got trays of tomatoes ripening, peppers needing something doing with them, onions - some sprouting already grr! and some fingerling PFAs too small to do much with, really. It was throw away or use them time for some of them
So I took whatever need rescuing the most from each tray, plus some garlic, red lentils and chicken stock from the freezer plus herbs from the garden....and there's a big pan of thick soup bubbling away now.
I'm cooking some garlic bread slices to go with it. That'll do nicely :D
-
Another freezer raid here to save us bothering too much, both still under the weather.
Chicken & veg soup for lunch & for dinner the last 2 potions of cottage pie with lovely Christmas beef gravy, Fresh-ish carrots & green beans & baked beans for him.
-
I spent a lot of yesterday on the "tomato sauce for the freezer" production line - they are ripening too fast even tucked away in the cool and dim!
Dinner was therefore hm lamb and mint burgers with tomato sauce (it was supposed to be meatballs but I ran out of time and energy) with tomato sauce, soy braised greens and bread on the side for OH. Tasted good, but the presentation wasnt great.
-
Comfort food weather. The plan is for Sawhedge , mash , some of the carrot and swede mash I bought (hopefully as nice as hm) , mixed veg and spoon standing. Pie with apple for afters if ML has left me any ::)
-
Busy yesterday so had got what I thought was pasta sauce out of the freezer - it was curry  Oh well, quick swap from pasta to rice and all was well.
Today is roast chicken dinner. It is pretty dreary out there so a plot dash for veg may be replaced with a dash to the Co-op down the road. I have spuds and squash in the shed, so just need something green :)
-
Another freezer raid unearthed a forgotten steak & kidney pie mix(cooked) have also got a puff pastry top in the other freezer. Will be frozen veg as I’m not battling the rain to pull carrots! Plus I don't think there are many green beans left. The whitefly infestation puts me of the kale tbh.
-
I had the rest (2 bowlfuls ;)) of yesterday's soup for lunch, so tea will be a cheese n onion toastie with some tomato and cuke on the side :)
-
Veg soup for dinner tonight - got some pork stock out the freezer for a base and we will see what there is in the fridge. Beetroot greens, parsley, carrot, pakchoi ......
-
Meat and potato pie with French beans and carrots for later on. Carrots and beans harvested about an hour ago :)
-
Pork belly cooked with apples, prunes and cider (some green toms and butter beans sneaked in as well!) all in the slow cooker for tonight. Busy day today! Have to sort something on the side for OH - rice probably.
Next day : erm.. that went a bit wrong. So the pork cass is tonight, and last night was some bargain sausages roasted with pots (for OH), squash, onions and toms, with a bit of cabbage on the side. Instant onion gravy.
-
Still suffering from last nights nuked ready meal - yuck I can still taste it. I rather fancy some melty, cheesey goodness tonight :tongue2: . Probably in a spud as lasagne feel like hard work.
-
Well I was out for lunch at a carvery ( I just had the small plate) so hubby had bacon, egg, beans fried potato & I had some pasta with bacon & cream cheese with garlic stirred through so a cheats carbonara I suppose, oh with some fried onions & mushrooms. Was quite good really, might repeat it another day.
-
I made pastry to make some pasties, but in the end made one big pie with the filling, rather than the pasties.
Green beans to go with it :)
-
Yesterday was chicken tray bake with toms ripened on the windowsill, Trinidad Perfume peppers, onion, squash and broccoli, served over rice with spicy yogurt sauce.
Tonight I have sausages defrosting and am contemplating making toad in the hole. This will win me massive brownie points with OH who is outside working in grey drizzly rain today. I think he needs rib sticking stuff and spoon standing to recover from that ;)
-
Defrosted beef cubes are in the slow-cooker with some veg I'll cook mash later to go with it :)
-
I have a stinking headache and really CBA tonight but I can just about manage pasta and pesto, it will take 3 minutes longer than nuking a spud but needs must. ::)
-
Slow cooker lamb chops cooked in what is probably the last of the tomatoes (apart from the 3 hundredweight cooked down into sauce in the freezer!) Also herbs, garlic, oh. and sliced aubergine (half price at Tossco and looked nice and shiny but had no idea what to do with it!)
-
Well we’ve been to 2 farms today to stock up on meat & as we’ve not had any chicken for awhile it’s sweet & sour chicken & rice with bought sauce😱( hubby doesn’t like the one I make🙄🙄) & prawn crackers also ready cooked. Plus he’s cooking it 😊 just what I need after a few heavy hours at the plot.
-
Tomato and celery soup, with bread for OH. Lots of flavour, but hopefully not too many calories.
-
Special treat - nice bit of lambs liver and onions , mashed spuds and it was supposed to be a savoy but they were out of stock  so I'll have to finish off the mashed carrot and swede, all covered with spoon standing of course. :D Warm pie with apple and custard for pudding if there's any left.
-
Going to be cold turkey (the freezer that keeps on giving!) with calabrase in cheese sauce, grilled tomatoes and some steamed pots for OH. I just have to get off my backside and go and pick the calabrase! ::) ::)
-
Defrosted beef cubes are in the slow-cooker with some veg
I've added some chilli to tonight's portion to be served with salad bits and rice..... the rest went in the freezer :)
-
The most fantastic Irishstew..in the name of the law..lol inspired by pulling some large turnips yesterday & hubby suggesting a stew. Then I remembered the last 1/2 shouldn’t of lamb in the freeezer & the breast of lamb that was lurking there. So a luscious stew with fresh pulled carrots, swede, parsnips(freezer),onions. Enough for another dinner either tomorrow or Saturday & lots of extra meat to be put away for shepherds pie when /if there’s any stock left plus the bones to restock down.... and more room in the freezer win, win.
-
Either the rest of the liver and onions, mash and mixed veg or a slab of the slow cooker gammon joint I did yesterday with spicy wedges and mushy peas. It's Friday - I can have junk food on Friday cant i ?
-
'Course you can! :D :D
When I got my act together and cut the calabrase, there was loads and loads. So - Plan B - a big bake of calabrase in cheese sauce, with crunchy topping (and a few sliced toms). Steamed spuds for OH.
Tomato Clafoutis with mixed green salad tonight ..... Looks healthy, but is really sinful with cream and eggs and goats cheese......
-
Potato & tomato topped fish pie with calabrese (loads here as well :D ) and peas from the freezer.
-
'Course you can! :D :D
Mother Lard wanted the gammon so it's liver again tonight - fine by me :tongue2:
a big bake of calabrase in cheese sauce, with crunchy topping (and a few sliced toms).
That would go nice with a slab of gammon and jacket spud . That's tomorrow's dinner sorted :)
-
Sirloin steak, oven chips, large salad, hm coleslaw with no carrots😱😂, fried mushrooms, then as it’s Friday a lemonchelllo dessert I spied in Lidl, plus I’ve started on the red vino colapso. Happy Friday everyone
-
It's got to be a plain cheese and tomato sandwich...
Mrs Growster and I had a huge fry-up at lunchtime, and while supermarket bacon loses all its water in about three minutes, it's still pretty good with some full-fat baked beans!
Mrs Growster eats like a bird, so she'll have some seeds and a peck on the cheek for good measure..;0)
-
.. supermarket bacon loses all its water in about three minutes, it's still pretty good with some full-fat baked beans!
Back before my beard went white ::) , I used to have smoked back bacon shipped 120 miles from the "dirty butcher" (an E.H.O. at the local council's words not mine) , that was pretty good. I'm going to have to dispute your claims about supermarket offerings having recently bought some.
The days when 3 rashers of bacon and a slice of extra mature cheddar made everything better are unfortunately long gone. :nowink:

When you are retired and have more time ( ) you could cure and salt your own. Now there is a little dream for dull days ...
Cold meat (ham and turkey, co-op bargains) with steamed beet greets, cabbage, bit calabrase, grilled toms and steamed spuds for OH are on the way. Trying to resist the idea of a little cheese sauce ...
-
Pea and mint soup with some crusty home-made bread.
The last of the Medieval Peasant’s Flour, which makes lovely bread mixed 50:50 with ordinary bread flour, was reaching its BB date, so needed to use it up :)
-

It's no wonder it was reaching its BB date, being Medieval. How did the peasant feel about you taking his flour?
:tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:
-
Salmon fillets steamed with shredded leeks, soy and ginger, rice and and some extra stir-fry veg a.k.a. fridge clear out.
-

😱 A beard, never considered a beard 😂
-
2nd outing for the Irish stew, this time with dumplings . Still some left & a plate of meat.
-
Now there is a little dream for dull days ...
Retirement or decent slices of bacon ? :nowink:
😱 A beard, never considered a beard 😂
How else would I keep my chin warm ? You know I'm not putting the central heating on until 10c.
There was gammon, there was cheese sauce (with cauli and broccoli) and there were chips :tongue2: I'm sure I will suffer for it tomorrow but it was worth it. :tongue2:
-
I've caught a bad case of the cba's this afternoon which normally means pasta and pesto or nuking a spud but even the decision feels like rather too much effort at the moment ::)
-
Oh dear - Jkt and beans and cheese? That's my go to ;)
The last of the plum toms on the windowledge had ripened so made a pasta sauce with onion, garlic and bacon bits and cooked penne pasta to go with it. French beans in honey/mustard sauce as a side.
-
Pork chop, plot spuds, plot cabbage and spoon standing. Very simple, but good :)
-
Oh dear - Jkt and beans and cheese? That's my go to ;)
I gave myself a stern talking to, dragged myself into the kitchen put the turkey breast in the slow cooker then promptly fell asleep until 01:30  oops. I was going to try and rescue it tonight with a sauce as it's somewhat dry :nowink: but nuked the last of the big spuds instead.
-
I'm sure there is a starving mutt who would happily help with the turkey! :D :D
Tonight is (bargain) chicken and gravy pie, with beetroot (clearing the last of them off the plot - the beasties have found them! >:( ) gratin and steamed pak choi. Some spuds for OH ...
-
I'm sure there is a starving mutt who would happily help with the turkey! :D :D
I'll ask but I'm pretty sure he'll complain it's dry and under-seasoned ;)
Guess I'll have to turkey and the trimming - doesn't feel right without sprouts but Ml finished those off last week.
-
The 2nd half of Monday’s fish pie, steamed carrots & green beans
-
Pork & Apple sausages with cabbage, carrots and mash.
-
Spag bol. I was back late and had leftover sauce in the fridge, so it was a good fast option :)
-
Going to be spinach (aka beet greens from clearing them off the plot yesterday) and egg curry, rice for OH. That one is easy ..... and not too many tomatoes. I'm going to look like a tomato!
-
Cottage pie with whatever veg I've got in the fridge.... or baked beans? Who knows
-
The first of the many Acorn squashes with a spiced veg and rice stuffing, grated cheese on top to serve :D
-
Lamb hotpot (again) seems to be hubby’s go to dinner when he’s cooking🙄 shame he didn’t use hardly any of the veg in the fridge😡
-
Tomato and celery soup, with fresh bread for OH. A bit sharp, had to soften it with milk ....
-
Too long in the freezer but still OK haddock in cheese sauce, peas and Kifli boiled potatoes followed by very reduced (to 60p) lemon tart from Jack Cohen's place. Indulgent but yummy. We bought 2 of them - one for us and one for our neighbours up the hill who have sweet teeth.
-
Roast turkey(bought on Thursday at Wyevales Christmas preview event half price £7.99 with an extra 15% off so I bought a large piece, boned & rolled crown, will take a piece off for tonight & freeze the rest.
Yorkshire pudding, roasties veg & I think there’s some cranberry sauce in the freezer.
-
Paul has been on about a bacon and onion roly poly type suet pudding for a couple of weeks so I gave in today as it is so cold. Gently steaming away at the moment. Mash, carrots, green beans and gravy to go with. Should get me some Brownie points when he gets in from work! :D

sounds just the thing for this weather :)

And very lovely it as too, trouble is now we’re hankering after a certain sort of pudding & there’s none left in the freezer☹️

Makes our spicy vegetable soup sound positively dull! Over noodles for OH.
Tonight will be a ribsticking beef casserole ...
-
Chicken tray bake last night. Not sure about today yet.
-

Ooh I don’t know I love a good soup & the beef casserole sounds good too.
We’re having more of the same. I cut the turkey into 3 pieces the 2 that went in the freezer weighed jut under 2 lbs & 3lbs & last nights piece was considerably smaller but will have done 4 potions so maybe 8/9 portions in the freezer plus 4 eaten was not a bad buy for £18 & it was tasty & moist, wish I’d bought 2 now lol
-
My son bought me a meat pack from his local butchers, all cut and packed for the freezer, they're always a good deal:)
This time it had a pack of rump steaks in it, so I'm defrosting one to have with butternut wedges and coleslaw for tea.
-
I put a beef and ale stew in the slowcooker yesterday, the plan is to turn some of it into a pie for tonight with mash and mixed veg. Just need to summon the energy to make the pastry....
-
Last night we had pork steaks with stuffing, roast Orla potatoes, Early Nantes fresh carrots, red cabbage (I forget the variety) - yummy!
-
Marks and Sparks do a great pizza selection disk, and half of one LP is in the oven right now, after a quick visit to the out-of-town food hall in T. Wells... Mrs Growster is just having a sandwich, but she's not sure if she'll like the bread from the same comestible supplier!
'Greedster' me..?
-
Him pasta, being made right now by Grandy & Willow lol roast vegetables in a passata sauce, garlic bread.
-
One-pot meal in the slow cooker since just before lunchtime, 3 chicken wings rescued from the bottom of the freezer first thing this morning and mostly defrosted when they went in. I added garlic, onions, carrots, peas and lentils with cumin, coriander, chicken oxo and S&P and a little water.
I've just tasted it and added a teaspoon of redcurrant jelly, it's thick, mildly spiced and very tasty - just right for a cold day.
-
Ate like a hobbit tonight.
First tea was a large hotdog when the sprog turned up and fed the ravenous grandsprog
Second tea was a tomato & lentil soup with a curry twist which was at the use it or lose it stage in the fridge
Main tea (some hours later) A pasta dish - bacon bits, peppers, mushrooms, cheese sauce.
Probably a gazillion calories.. but I had been outside working in the freezing wind all afternoon so maybe not that sinful.
-
Last night's pie was cancelled :( whilst Id made the pastry, pie making time was used driving back to ML's after some bright spark pulled the burglar alarm control box off the wall which triggered all the tamper alarms looking for the fuse board  Settled for pasta and tuna in the end as it was the quickest.
I'll be trying again for pie and mash tonight.
-
Mince in spoon standing with green beans and carrot & swede mash.
-
I need a plan B   I suspect it's going to be some sort of cheese and onion sausage roll type thing with chips and beans if I can find a tin. >:(
-
Today I have made 3 pounds of finest diced steak into a beef and beer casserole with all the necessary veg, ie: Leeks,Mild while onion, garlic, carrots and mushrooms. It smell lovely, so shall have some of that, with spuds and peas. then freeze portions later. Also cooked 1 and half pounds of diced pork, made sweet and sour sauce, and added lots of pineapple and yellow pepper. Got to portion up that later when its cooled.
Good day by my standards :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Dentist - still not fixed - mashed potato - not happy.
-
Oh :( Hope you get it sorted soon.
Yesterday was lamb and chickpea kebabs with oven roasted veg and spicy yogurt. This was inspired by a half bag of lamb mince I found in the freezer.
Tonight was chicken stew.
-
Dentist - still not fixed - mashed potato - not happy.
Oh dear, I’ve got a tub of turkey gravy needing a home?
-
Some sliced lamb in gravy from the freezer with cabbage and carrots.
-
Cottage pie with broad beans. A very frugal meal as the minced beef was an end of day bargain of 15p! 500 grams, enough for 2 pies. Apart from an Oxo cube, a little milk and butter all the other ingredients were home grown :)
-
Oh :( Hope you get it sorted soon.
Dec 21st next appointment available, it was August I went to have it fixed originally
Oh dear, I’ve got a tub of turkey gravy needing a home?
You're a genius ! I didn't have anything resembling proper gravybut I did have a pot of bisto best granules, had a the rest of the mash with it poured over. Much better :tongue2:
Bought some readybrek for tea cos I'm a big kid at heart. :nowink:
-
Cauliflower cheese couldn't decide whether better on pasta or potato but the jacket won out :)
-
Last night was smoked cod loin, potatoes boulangere (using Blue Danube spuds) and French beans. Luxury!
-
Last night was salmon and pea tagliatelle, tonight is a full English breakfast :D
-
Lamb shanks (boil in the bag ones with gravy). Got called into job no.2, so grabbed them for tea on the way out.
-
Last night was pork chop tray bake, onions, tomatoes and peppers with green beans from the freezer.
Tonight was beef and mushroom casserole with peas and carrots.
-
Last night was beef mince hotpot & tonight it’s yesterdays freshly caught trout provided by our neighbour, more veg for him then 😂
-
Roast pork on Sunday, then had to work Mon/Tues evenings. Also got Thurs and Fri this week as well - sigh ::)
Anyway, tonight is the leftover pork and as I shall be decent dinner deprived for the rest of the week, I feel a re-run of Sunday coming on ;) Roasties, veg and some pork reheated in gravy will be just the job for a grey, wet day :)
-
It's not cold, but it is miserable - so I've decided on a casserole with cheese dumplings/scones on top. I think there's still some cubed beef in the freezer, if not there's deffo some chicken :D
-
Lamb steaks made in to a roast dinner.

Nice bit of stuffing and some apple sauce with that I trust.... I really wasn't in the mood to cook but that sounds so good, I'm almost tempted to get a pork chop out the freezer. :nowink:
CBA today and I was planning on dumping some waitrose bombay spuds (meh) over some rice or even chips   I know - I'm so ashamed of myself. :(
-
Nice bit of stuffing and some apple sauce with that I trust....
No sorry  No time for lots of extras, but it was good.
Bombay potatoes over rice isn't that bad. I'm not sure of the chips option (spuds on spuds ), but its a meal and better than some you could have. A bag of frozen spinach in the freezer is often a life saver here to perk up either leftover or ready meal curry. If I am stuck at work late, a quick dive into the frozen meals before the tills close has been known ;) Spinach stirred in counts as green and leafy.
Sometimes that CBA fairy lands with such a thud that anything you manage is OK and that's just how it is.
-
We often make 2 meals at once - lasagne, cottage pie, curry and then freeze one. Home made ready meals. Hearty soups are dead easy with a hand blitzer. Adding lentils for body and protein. Then freeze. Before we moved there was a lovely Chinese take away that delivered and our Friday treat was often a Mrs Wong's delivered to the door in handy freezer containers that we still use today, 8 years later.
An omelette is a really quick dish to prepare and cook. So many things work as a filling too although a plain omelette is acceptable, Just some bread and butter to accompany if you're feeling very CBA
And now I present the piece de resistance, La Pastie de Cornwall a la Msr. Ginster avec less haricot dans une sauce tomate a la Msr. Heinz Eee. There's posh! :)
-
Tonight I cooked a chicken breast in breadcrumbs, with wedges and a bowl of chopped onion, cucumber, celery and tomato with a honey/mustard dressing :) I hate having to buy salad stuff again, but sometimes I just fancy salad and the only crops growing now are a few small lettuces in the greenhouse.
The things I bought today were grown in the big glasshouses in Thanet - so at least they weren't imported
-
A friend that's off on holiday gave me chicken fajitas stir fry kit to use, so that me sorted ;)

Reminds me of taking some people for a meal in a Mexican restaurant. The waiter kept calling them FAR JITTERS. :D :D :D

I try to do the same, but events sometimes conspire against me ::) I agree though, hm is always nicer :)
Yesterday I was only meant to be in for a short evening shift at job no.2, but they were texting me before I even got to job no.1 asking when I could get there >:( I ended up with thick cut ham, salad and chips when I eventually got in, but I have to say pasty and beans was in the running - the products of Messrs Ginster and Heinz both also being in grabbing distance last night and somehow strangely in the back of my mind
Anyway spag bol tonight and I made a big batch of sauce so there is loads for the fridge/freezer ;)
-
I had a sort of Morrocan mince curry with peppers and potatoes in it along with a very spicy kebab cooked by the daughter. All I had to do was heat it up and babysit the grandson. :)
Poor Val ended up with spaghetti hoops on toast (she stayed at home)
So I got to watch a Russian film about Stalingrad. :):):)
-
Roast chicken dinner.
I swear the cat has a chicken radar. He was upstairs fast asleep in the duvet all afternoon, but was suddenly sitting on the sofa when the plates came through. He was doing his best cute act with silent meows and licking his lips while looking hopeful as well
-
They're clever with it aren't they :nowink:
I had a pan-fried steak and onions with HG Romanesco and marrowfat peas.
-
Cottage pie tonight, and at child's request purple carrots added to the mash topping...
-
Re play of yesterday’s martini Chicken with roast potatoes, mash, freshly picked Savoy cabbage-steamed with hg carrots, peas & tinned sweetcorn, with gravy & Yorkshire puddings made with the help of Willow.
She made room to eat her chocolate Krispie cake from playschool for pud 😊

Actually we're blessed with a very adventurous eater in the main, including hot mustard, jalepeno chilli peppers and most cabbage-y type brassicas.
-
I had bacon, lentil and carrots etc in a chunky soup with the last of the HM bread.
Honey, walnuts and Greek yogurt for pud, just left enough of it for breakfast ;)
-
I have a fridge full of food but no meals ::) It's been another testing week and I'm completely void of inspiration. In an effort to ensure dinner doesn't come out of a bottle at 40% abv, I'm considering beans on toast or tuna pasta bake.

Have you introduced them to the joys of cabbage and English mustard (from powder not premix) yet ? I know I'm bias but even so ... mmmm cabbage :D

Hate to admit it but I love those tins of beans and sausages. Reminds me of camping.
Fish, chips & mushy peas tonight - comfort food. :) Even got some white sliced for the butties.
-
Salmon fillets, lyonnaise potatoes,peas,carrots
-
Lentil soup with one of the walnut and raisin pull apart rolls, which I made today :)
-
Hate to admit it but I love those tins of beans and sausages. Reminds me of camping.
Shudder  Both at the thought of camping and sausages in a tin :D
I went with tuna pasta bake and over ate :( it made for an uncomfortable night and I still don't feel the best, too much to eat but not enough to leave ::) . There's chicken casserole in the slowcooker for tonight, if things settle down, 1Kgs of legs were on offer for just £1.50  not normally my thing but at that price it would have been rude not to have them.
-
I'm going to strip the meat off a couple of chicken drumsticks, and stir-fry them with veg and sweet chilli sauce, rice to go with them. Probably indigestion as well ::)
-
I've been told off for only posting things with chips by SWMBO
So tonight we are having Chinese chicken curry with rice. Sadly chips is orf.
-
Let me fix that for you ....

One pot chicken & chorizo with peppers, carrots & potatoes on top in chicken stock with a jar of my own passata which is proving rather popular with hubby( do you think I could get him to learn how to bottle it? Lol)
-
Busy week for me with late nights at work every day, so big slap up home cooked meal tonight eh? Er no, chip shop tea  - I blame Lardman and John (oh and the CBA fairy)
-
... chip shop tea  - I blame Lardman and John (oh and the CBA fairy)
I don't mind taking one for the team ;) but go on admit it, there's something so good about the smell of chips on a cold, crisp autumnal night :tongue2:
There's more chicken casserole if I want it tonight I'm not a fan though, I don't know why but I find chicken dishes deeply unsatisfying. I might swap with ML, I was going to make her sawhedges, mash and spoonstanding onion gravy.
-
I dreamt last night of Greece ::) so tonight I'm having Gyros style pork, salad and lemon potatoes, may even go all out and make some Tzatziki and pretend 8) :D
-

I always loved the food when we holidayed in Greece. Beef Stifado was a favourite. Never had gyros though - they sound nice. Love tizzy tocky in the summer with a salad.
How do you do the lemon potatoes?
Oddest meal in Greece was a little beach cafe that started doing English Braekfast (sic) - sausage, bacon, egg, uncooked tomato and slices of cucumber!
-
We had hm pasta with bolognaise from the freezer,hm baguettes flavoured with garlic followed by American apple cake ala Mary Berry
-
Pork chop tray bake with spicy beans, made with tomato sauce from the freezer :)
-
How do you do the lemon potatoes?
I thought I must have posted the Greek lemon potatoes recipe before but couldn't find it, so I've done it now ::)

-
97% pork sausages - I thought, I know a one pot casserole. Cooked the bangers in the oven in the casserole with the lid on. Brilliant, no smell. 2 saucepans, 1 glass jug, 2 colanders, and 2 casserole dishes later.
After all that I still hadn't cooked it down enough, and it wasn't very nice. Loads left over, so shall have to try again tomorrow

-
Steak and ale pie (bought as in a rush today), plus hm mash, plot veg and spoon standing. Great after a cold wet day :)
-
Thick veg soup with a bit of bacon in it, cheese scone with it :)
-
Pork steak fried in flavoured butter and oil with leek & potato pie, calabrese and carrots. Sadly no chips :D
Tomorrow will be soup or something that doesn't require chewing for me. Cracked a molar and it's time to say farewell tooth, you served me well. :(
-
Sorry John... chips!
With beans, cheese and tinned mackerel, quick dinner as I didn't have time to cook tonight.
-
You lucky people :)
-

Crown or implant not an option ? Dental problems just suck the enjoyment out of food - even chips. :(
There's mince beef in the fridge for tonight, depending on how pants today turns out it will either become chilli , mince beef and onion pie or deconstructed cottage pie.
-

It turns out it wasn't the crack in the molar that was causing the problem, there's a cavity that needs a filling. It's going to be tricky and I may lose the wisdom tooth and need a root canal on the next one. Because it's something needing doing sooner rather than later they're getting me in on 18th January 2019.
Still no chips on the menu though :( - Spag bol tonight, rest of the leek & potato pie with things to be decided for Thursday.
-

Last year I had a repeat of a gum infection under one of my molars - the first time antibiotics had sorted it out, second time I asked for an 'emergency' appointment and the dentist extracted it there and then because an x-ray showed the infection was starting to eat its way through my jaw. First extraction since I was about 11! ::)
Sorry folks, hope I've not put anyone off their tea!
-
It certainly hasn't put me off
I've got the rest of yesterday's veg soup and for 'afters' there's a trial run for a slow cooker chocolate lava cake  I don't know how that's going to turn out ::)
-

Well that's a new one  How did it go?
Yesterday was lamb chops, veggie rice and greens.
Late back tonight and tomorrow , so have various options stashed - eggs, soup, bread, cheese. It will too late on for a proper meal, but I'll need something.
-

Lush! I'll post the recipe ;)
Tonight I've got Soddages with onions, peas, mash and spoon standing of course :D
-
Turkey (from a slow cookered drumstick), with calabrase (amazed it is still going) in cheese sauce and steamed potatoes. The rest of the turkey meat will join the slow cookered veg for a casserole later in the weekend ....
-
Last night was fish pie with peas, fruit crumble & ice cream or pl yog
Tonight it’s waIt & see, we’re off out to a posh restaurant with friends, a very rare occurrence as hubby doesn’t like eating out, but he was given a voucher for helping someone .
-
Butchers soddages, wedges and one of those steamer bags of sweetcorn, peas and carrots.

Fish pie with fruit crumble.. now that's a combination worthy of Heston Blumenthal! :D :D :D
Last night was chicken korma, rice, onion bahjis, poppadoms and pickles. Tonight is steak, chips, peas and garlic mushrooms. Finally, chips on the menu! :)
-
Steak and chips - with garlic mushrooms!! And no leaves ... OH would think he had died and gone to heaven.
I've been sorting through the tomatoes in store and having to cook a lot off them off. :( Heaven knows how I am going to get them in the freezer. Anyway - pasta in tomato sauce with cheese tonight ....
-
No chips here - I'm a day behind and we have had curry night
Lamb and sweet potato curry, rice, yogurt and an onion, cucumber and tomato relish.
I've been sorting through the tomatoes in store and having to cook a lot off them off. :( Heaven knows how I am going to get them in the freezer.
Bottle them? It isn't quite the same flavour as freezing them, but still loads better than shop bought sauce :)

I was only teasing - it sounded lovely. Hope the posh restaurant was up to your home made standards? Nothing more annoying than paying for something and thinking it's not as good as you can do in your own kitchen.

It was a lovely evening out for a change, the food was beautifully presented( friend said the chef was a master chef 1/4 finalist, I dunno I don’t watch it 🙄😊) lacked a bit if flavour all round tbh.
I had Asian crab cakes ,they were pretty tasteless tbh, followed by venison, no flavour but nicely cooked & good texture with creamed mash, roast parsnip & beetroot, they were superb. Then I had creme brûlée with poached plums, that was lovely. They brought us 2 lovely canapés, a goats cheese creamed Cornett style thing that was different & a warm tiny duck spring role type thing that was lovely. We also got a little shortbread biscuit with a meringue type topping with a chocolate truffle on top with our coffee, well it should have been but it came when we’d finished & we were a bit full. Service was ok but in a place like that I expect them to know who’s ordered what ,the table to be set properly & they missed out on a wine order as they never gave us a wine list only offered did we want more drinks as we were over halfway though the main course. Just as well as we might have needed to take out a mortgage lol. I think tbh we are out of touch with how much it all costs £23 + for 1pt peronni,1/2 coke & 2 fancy gin & tonics seemed an awful lot.
It was nice for a treat & the company was good. Noisy room as no soft furnishings to absorb the sound but so many places are like that these days
-
We're the same - out of touch with prices. Even the chippie seems expensive!
-
I know - a snack and a pint in the pub on a Sat lunchtime for us (usually a bribe to get OH to the shops for necessary trips ....) will be more than my weekly shopping bill.
Tonight is the rest of the turkey leg, with the slow cooker chilli tomatoes with split peas and pearl barley etc Will be very welcome when we get in thoroughly chilled!
-
Roast chicken dinner with plot spuds and cabbage, plus spaghetti squash from the shed :)
-
Family dinner with huge puff pastry topped chicken and mushroom casserole, carrots, broccoli and roast spuds.
Coffee and walnut layer cake for later.
-
Posh dinner here of bacon and egg sandwich followed by a dessert of peanuts, pork scratchings and wine gums, all washed down with a bonanza of cider. Guess who's wife is away tonight ;)
-

Haha, just as well, you’ll be up alright with indigestion
-
All the talk of mince pies on another thread .... so quiche lorraine tonight (just got the bacon out the freezer) with coleslaw, and the 'leftover' pastry might make a dozen mince pies. :D Oh and a few cheese and marmite whirls to go with the odd glass ... ::)

Sounds the wrong way round to me
Evening at the pub followed by hangover breakfast, although I guess getting the breakfast in first may well have lined the stomach nicely ;)
-
Hubbys birthday dinner with the family this evening, so home cooked gammon, already done & hubby tested it last night,so then I had too as he said it was fab, bought from the farm we now use. The difference is quite something
Will be with jacket potatoes, salads, coleslaw then lemon meringue pie.
Not quite what he’d choose but got to be easy & early cos of the midget gems needing to go home for baths/bed & son coming in from work.
-
Sounds good! I love a properly cooked gammon ...
Found a marrow trying to go off, so it is stuffed (lamb mince with onions and middle east spices) marrow baked on buttered potatoes, topped with cheesy crumbs and spoon standing on the side. Winter food!
-
Thanks Madcat, it must have been ok as there was very little left & it weighed nearly 2 kgs!
Tonight hubby has made a hotpot with minced beef.
-
Tray-baked onions, squash, and a small pork loin steak ,with a bowl of chopped cucumber, celery and tomato salad in honey/mustard dressing.
I had to cook the Uchiki Kuri squash as it had started to rot at the stem end :(
-
Pork loin steaks covered in homemade chilli jam and caramlised onions. And..... chips!
-
Posh dinner here of bacon and egg sandwich followed by a dessert of peanuts, pork scratchings and wine gums, all washed down with a bonanza of cider.
When you're done with it, can I have my "cooking for one" book back please ::)
The easy bake, tray bake veggies were on offer so I treated myself 35mins in the oven job done. Nice enough but really needed to be put with a lump of steak or even a pork chop, left me wondering where the rest of dinner was :(
-
Lardman and Plot1Problems, you two should get together .... roast vegs and meat and chips. Both happy .. :D :D
Tonight is the last night before the diet recommences so toad in the hole has been requested. I'll roast some onions and squash too, and put runners on the side with the inevitable onion gravy.
-
Bacon and broccoli tagliatelle, with cheese on, obviously, and a chopped salad side.
-
Tray bake of chicken and spuds, with extra veg chucked on halfway through, followed by MoS's slow cooker chocolate lava pud. OMG 8) It is is rich and totally delicious :D I'm in a chocolate induced haze now

Venison bourguignon started in the slow cooker. During the day I'll add shallots and mushrooms ... Shredded leek tops on the side, with a few steamed pots for OH. (He keeps 'mentioning' how I used to do crusty french rolls to go with a bourguignon. How the heck am I supposed to resist them if I do them for him? How would he keep it down to just the one or two? Bah.)
-
Winter fair in Worcester this weekend so hopefully the nipper and I will be scoffing german sausages and hot mustard tonight!
-
CBA fairy arrived today, despite (or because of?) not setting foot outside the door - so I had a smallish jacket spud with tuna and sweetcorn and a dollop of mayo. If I get something out of the freezer to defrost NOW I'll have to make a 'proper' dinner tomorrow - wanders off into the cold depths of beyond for inspiration....
-
Leeks wrapped in (bargain) ham in cheese sauce with a crunchy topping. Steamed pots for OH. Mmmm.
-
don't you mean supper or is that dinner :D [see latest topic ] a nice bit of freshly backed bread and home made jam for my tea Beautiful
-
Tonight I had Haddock in parsley sauce with carrots and green beans :)
-
Last night was liver and onion gravy, mash and green beans. 9/10 - highest mark possible for a dish without chips. I'm a man of simple tastes :)
Tonight was a minced beef stroganoff on tagliatelli which was lovely but after the post mortem we think it needed pepping up a bit so the half in the fridge for Sunday will get paprika and a pinch of HM chilli pepper.
Tomorrow I'll be cooking cheese omelettes - I'm good at those if I say it myself. More importantly, there will be chips! Happy days are coming.. :D :D :D
-
Last night was a hot dog & a samosa😱. It was the villages Christmas fair, hot dog was at 1 of the churches, proper sausage & samosa at the library 😊
Tonight is fillet steak from the farm shop, look really dark, hope it tastes as good as it looks, he’ll have chips but I’ll just have salad as it’s sewing clubs Christmas party this afternoon. So no lunch before I go.
-
Here, bacon, egg, tomatoes and chips are on the menu :)
-
on to nights menu is liver sausage bacon onions mash and peas o" and thick gravy for a sweet home made lemon sponge with custard a meal fit for a king and me :D
-
Here it is the other half of the Venison bourguignon I made a couple of days ago. Casseroles are often better for a day in the fridge I think. Kale to go with (it stopped raining long enough to fetch it but it is going to take some washing to get rid of the white fly) and pots for OH.
-
Comfort food all round then
Here it was lamb shanks - shop bought boil in the bag jobs, but an easy fix after a long day. Plot spuds and greens, plus spaghetti squash from the shed to make up for it. Roasted spaghetti squash soaks up gravy like a dream :D
-
A rather bland chilli with plain rice last night. Supermarket minced beef has never been good but it's verging on unpleasant lately, I really need to find some time to go to the butchers.
If the CBA fairy drops in there are leftovers (that's how bad it was) for tonight, if not, I have a chicken breast I plan to do a proper chicken dinner with, it's been a while since I had something green and covered in gravy ::) .
-
This month's butcher's deal, had some nice thick braising steaks on it - so cooking some in onion gravy. Have to collect some plot veg to go with it, now where are my wellies
-
Substantial lunch, so apple and stilton soup with fresh bread for OH should go down nicely.
-
Picked a load of salad leaves from the poly tunnel. Will have that with southern fried chicken, fried potato slices, boiled egg and spicy lemon dressing.
-
Roast chicken legs with roast potatoes, stuffing, freshly pulled carrots & taadaa, the first fresh parsnips of the year(even though there’s still plenty in the freezer from last year, braised leeks & gravy. Might even push the boat out & rootle about for some of last years cranberry sauce, shame there’s no bread sauce.
-
a traditional Sunday meal nice piece of pork mash potatoes with swede and cauliflower with white sauce not forgetting the crackling :D
-
I went into work to work yesterday afternoon expecting to finish at 5pm and got out at 8pm - sigh ::)
Anyway OH had given up hope of tea and gone for takeaway curry. He had bough me a biriyani and put it in the oven to keep warm. It wasn't the greatest by that stage, but I was grateful for it and wolfed it anyway
-
Erm ... it was supposed to be slow cooker chicken and cabbage but it ain't on yet! ::) Life, eh!
So I'll have to do it as an oven casserole I suppose - old tech. Couscous on the side for OH.
-
Homemade bolognese with extra smuggled veg in.
-
Baked salmon,lyonnaise potatoes,steamed carrots,peas,sweetcorn
-
Baked Acorn squash filled with spicy vegetable rice and little taken from 150g pack of beef mince :) Rest of mince will go in a chilli tomorrow ;)
-
Chicken pies (shop bought) with plot spuds, leeks and greens, plus spoon standing. Rib sticking stuff :)
-
Sausages cooked in a super hot and spicy tomato sauce, with mushrooms, allotment peas and cajun spiced chips. Brought tears to my eyes, thanks Razzamatazz chillies!
-
Dine in for £10 from M & S, slow braised beef brisket with a sticky sauce, potato rosti, then I added peas, sweetcorn, cauliflower, & bought profiteroles as an extra, a very nice tea it was, just what you need after a day spent Christmas shopping
Oh & a bottle of red wine(only had a glass though)
-
HM meatballs in tomato sauce from the freezer and spaghetti, with grated parmesan on top.
-
Roast sausages and roast veg (inc squash that needed eating), spoon standing of course!
-
Curried butternut squash with pork chops
-
Pasta with cheese sauce, bacon bits, peppers garlic, onion, mushrooms etc in there.
Nearly as good as chips! Nearly :)
-
A traybake of pork chop, onions, tomatoes and wedges, with French beans (and mayo for dunking the wedges :D)
-
Going to put a squash (more of the one I roasted some chunks from last night) korma in the slow cooker asap ... Rice for OH I think.
-
I decided I fancy a Lasagne so I got the mince and HG passata out of the freezer to defrost.... if I run out of time I suppose it will be Bolognese with spaghetti, we'll see
-
On mince pie duty this afternoon, so I think I'll make a quiche on the side ... wedges and a quick fridge / freezer sort for the veg.
-
Yesterday was a use-by dinner, an eclectic mix of 'stuff' on it's use-by ML hasn't eaten - food but not a meal ::)
I'm shattered tonight but there are no spuds of a size worth nuking which leaves only pasta as a CBA dinner.
-
Cheese omelette and oven chips plus a few salad bits that need rescuing ::)
-
A piece of steak shared with OH, oven chips & a salad for me, fried egg for him. I’m off out for drinks & nibbles with friends in a while, I’m taking cheese & biscuits, so that’s my pud sorted, He’s got a strawberry tart from Sainsbury’s for pudding
-
I was persuaded by the sprog to purchase a Chinese takeaway tonight, so we had a feast of chicken chow mein, chips and sesame prawn toast. And I still wonder where the old six pack went sometimes...
-
Salmon and pea risotto, a little of lemon/chilli seasoning gave it a bit of a kick :D
I've a Cornetto for 'ron.
-
Spag bol - sauce defrosted from the freezer during the day, pasta on to boil and tea done in no time :D
-
Mrs's work do tonight, tiny portions of Christmas dinner, expensive beer... Pitstop to the McDonalds for some calories and then back home for a lovely bottle of red.
-
Pork chop, roast plot spuds and squash, plus plot greens :)
-
I've a cheese pudding on for tonight, runners on the side for a bit of green. Very lazy, but OH loves it!
-
Sausage & onions with the ubiquitous thick gravy to go with, cauliflower cheese for me, mash for him, peas & carrots . Mince pies for pud, finally got round to making them
-
Lump of topside in the slow cooker with redwine, mustard, onion etc. Will serve it with roast veg (pots, squash, onions, parsnip) and gravy tonight. I'll add mushies and shallots to the cooking liquid and leave it on for a bit and then in due course it will get the end of the joint and magically become beef casserole! ;)
-
I had my mince pies for lunch :D Tonight it's haddock in parsley sauce with peas and French beans.
-
Soddages, chips and gravy :D There was some veg as well. OH was delighted, but if I had been on my own, it would have been just chips and gravy 'cos it's been that sort of day
-
Homemade bolognese with extra cheese for insulation purposes.
-
Pasta bake - only to discover there were no mixed herbs left half way into cooking it.
-
Leek and potato pie with gammon. Rather lovely it was too.
-
It was cold beef with (the last of the) calabrese in cheese sauce, with (carefully reserved!) left over roasties for OH. If he'd known I'd cooked extras, they would never have made it to last night's plate. ::)
The calabrese plants are now on the compost heap. I am amazed that they have kept going as long as they have.
-
Beef casserole was eaten at lunch time (we needed something hot after a morning at the shops!) so tea was apple and stilton soup, with bread for OH. Healthy, so the odd glass of vino colapso balanced things out! :D
-
Chinese takeaway tonight and copious amounts of beer this evening. Fridays are great.
-
I had a salmon fillet with coleslaw, peas and mash sneaked a mince pie from the freezer stash for after :D
-
The freezer in ML garage doesn't like the cold weather so it's time for a mass clear out. Options for tonight are a whole leg of lamb, 1lb of stewing steak or ½lb of sausage meat.
Yes it is my fault for kicking the can down the road instead of buying a chest freezer when I said I would last year.
-

Use the sausage meat first - lamb and steak will last longer. If you're buying a new freezer, check how long they'll hold temperature in a power cut. Some online retailers tell you. It can range quite widely and you never know. Our chest freezer reckons 36 hours - handy if the poles come down :)
-
All ready to pop in the oven. Casserole of chicken with olives and saffron, from my French cookery book, have done the spuds as well - in the saucepan ready to switch on. Mrs Bouquet
-
My good friend has a rare evening off work tonight so it's a boy's night out for a curry and beer :)
-
Cottage pie with Brussels and carrots. I've just eaten the Cornetto which was supposed to be for pud
-

You could make sausage rolls with erm the sausage meat & roast the lamb to be followed by some sliced in gravy for the freezer & or stew packs for when the cba fairy visits again , you could also make extra pastry & make a couple of steak pies & jobs a good un. I found Ao.com delivered a freezer & fridge incredibly quickly when I ordered for my mum.
-
None to self - be less predictable :nowink:
Sausage meat was turned into giant sausage rolls with the pastry I was going to use for mince pies, I had one with rustic wedges for dinner and the other cold for lunch - They were fine, I just don't think shortcrust pastry goes with pork.
The beef was done in the slow cooker as beef and ale (stout actually) stew for ML, she complained it was still tough after 8 hours though.
The lamb I split at the shin, the upper was slow cooked today for roast lamb (which I had tonight and was excellent - waitrose lamb seems to be pricey but worth it) the shank will go back in tomorrow with pearl barley etc for lamb stew.
I wouldn't use AO.com again if you paid me after the poor service I had the last time. John lewis is the same price and has an extra years warranty. I've brought anything of 'value' back here so there's just milk and a whole lot of apple puree in there if it dies completely. I'll deal with it after the holiday period.... promise.
-
Last night was chicken and cabbage cass, with steamed pots for OH. Not thrilling and not as good as it should have been, it went on rather late. :(
Better step it up with tonight's chicken and leek casserole, with butter beans and mushrooms.
-
My sister has just suggested macaroni cheese & vegetables which gets a huge thumbs up from me as I hardly ever make it
-
the other half of what I had last night, with the extra spuds and veg I cooked. - easy - I really do dislike cooking now :nowink: Mrs Bouquet
-
I've just brought a bag of chips in with me, after present shopping this afternoon ::)
Perfect with a cuppa to unwind ;)
-
More roast lamb with the trimmings - even remembered the mint sauce tonight. :tongue2:
-
It was pasta bake last night as I had veg in the fridge that needed using. Tonight is chicken sausages, but I'm not sure what to do with them. I've got mixed cooked beans in the freezer, so maybe spicy beans
-
My first attempt at jerk pork with rice and beans.
-
Cold gammon, beetroot gratin (cream that needs using!), potato wedges for OH.
Twas leek pasta bake for lunch - only it never saw the oven! ::)
-
Jacket potato with coronation chicken. Mrs Bouquet
-
Home again now & hubby had left a chicken in red wine casserole in the oven.
-
Somehow I ended up cooking tonight - Val having spent some time today making the most delicious strawberry jam with strawberries we froze in the summer.
So it was sausages, cheese potato cakes and poached egg. The potato cakes recipe needs a bit of work but it was edible. 2 out of 3 ain't bad :)
-
Salmon with lemon butter sauce, peas, carrots and baby boiled potatoes. Caramel ice cream for pud.
-
The potato cakes recipe needs a bit of work ...
Colmans English mustard powder ;)
More roast lamb last night. Somewhat ruined by the "green beans" from snasbods I thought they'd be nice whole french beans. They're foul, like old woody runners cut in to strips bit like eating plastic. The rest of the bag is going in the bin >:(
Bit of pork shoulder tonight, one of those pre-marinaded/Herb encrusted jobs (it was on offer ! )
-
Thanks for the mustard tip. Sorry about the beans, shame you've not got chickens :) Compost?
Slow cooked beef stew with mash (I made a little too much for the potato cakes)
-
Lamb burgers (with onion and cumin in there), coleslaw and jacket pot for OH are on the menu tonight.
-
Beer battered cod, mash, steamed peas & parsley sauce. Hubby said that that we’d had a couple of weeks was lovely, just wondering if I’ve been conned into cooking 🤔
-
Take the compliment! :D We don't get a lot, so appreciate the ones you do get .... Plus that sort of conning would take subtlety, and is that likely? ::)
Tonight is pastry time - I have to do some more mince pies, so I'll do a bacon and egg pie on the side. And while the oven is on, some crunchy rolls, dough made in the bread machine. So pie, coleslaw and rolls for OH will do us nicely.
-
I've got the slow cooker on, beef stew inside - while I make frangipane mince pies.
A very good idea to sneak some savoury pie making in along the way though :D
-
Yesterday was lebanese chicken with boneless chicken thighs, plot spuds, onion and garlic - put in dish with salt and white pepper, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil. Bake 30 mins with foil on and 30 mins foil off. I had a bag of green beans in the fridge that looked a bit sad, so they went in as well. Must remember that one as it was a good addition.
Wilted plot greens served on the side. 5 minutes prep, in the oven and a lovely meal appeared as if by magic :D
-
Tonight will be a nice easy leeks in cheese sauce, with some more of the rolls for OH. I'm not going to be fussing with stuff ... got enough to do and a shortage of oomph today!!
-
Tonight is the last of the beef stew with cabbage and mash :)
-
OH wanted takeaway - more specifically chicken jalfrezi, but that's a bit hot for wimpy little me, so I had tandoori chicken, naan and salad
-

I had a boss who liked to take his area managers to a Bradford curry house and order super hot curries after the monthly meeting. Those who couldn't eat them were mocked mercilessly and you felt your time in the job might be affected... The trick was to burn out your taste buds with hot pickles first and take some rennies immediately after the main course. I acquired a taste for hot curries after a year :)
-
Friday was ½ a packet of dark chocolate digestives, Saturday was the other ½ and a tin of rice pudding. Not only has the CBA fairy been round, she bought her family too ::)
I have an absolute stinker of a headache today (probably from all the sugar) the plan is for mac and cheese to balance things out assuming I don't get led astray.
-
I've got a pack of sausages in the fridge on their BB date, I'd freeze them but simply no room, so looks like it's sausages for tea ::) Got loads of plot veg in the fridge to go with, plus spoonstanding obvs :)
-
Finest Braising Steak (I know, I know, but I don't like fat). Followed a recipe from Good House Keeping, it has caramelised red onions and garlic and lots of, hopefully, delicious sauce.
It has just gone in a slow oven for 2 hours, (They are whole thick steaks, not diced)
Little potatoes, and dont' know what veg yet. Mrs B
-
Butternut squash, spinach and blue cheese in a filo pie with roast potatoes as we decided we didn't want a roast today and again on Tuesday.
-
I've got a chicken in the slow cooker on a sliced lemon with vermouth. Onion spiked with cloves inside, so that should make a nicely flavoured bird, but a bit different from the traditional. Oven on later - more mince pies (I swear they are evaporating in the tin!) and lots and lots of roast veg (pots, parsnip, squash, onion, apple ....), and some stuffing balls. Spoon standing obvs too!
-
Last night was chilli which had been stashed in the fridge in advance as I was working. Crusty bread with it as I couldn't be bothered to cook rice. Now that really is an attack of the CBAs, but I was dead on my feet after a long shift - honest
-
Now that really is an attack of the CBAs, but I was dead on my feet after a long shift - honest
Whatever it takes to cope - particularly if you are in retail like you at this time of year! Tell your feet - just one more day to go ....
Keeping it crisp today with cold chicken, coleslaw and saute potatoes (the last of the charlottes) tonight. And more mince pies of course!
-
Welsh black rump steak, chips, peas, garlic mushrooms - perfic :)
-
Chicken parmigiana with hm pasta shapes
-
Yesterday was Turkey, roasted mixed veg and potatoes, 2 types of stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, sprouts, red cabbage and cranberry, cauliflower cheese, bread sauce, onion sauce and gravy. Thanks to the sprog!
Grandson ate, in order of preference: pigs in blankets, turkey, a roast potato and a small sprout :) Followed by lego construction and ice cream.
Today they're coming to us later and it's grazing rather than a sit-down.
-
We had our main Christmas meal around 3pm, so tea last night was a late affair of dips with crisps, crackers and veg to dunk in them.
Tonight is going to be stuffed peppers with couscous and veg inside, all topped with cheese. I might make some roasted tomatoes to have on the side as well :)
-
Yesterday was roast duck, beef wellington and ham, with all the trimmings. Today was leftovers and pate.
-
I know it's supposed to be turkey of late but It all just tastes like rancid butter to me  I've spent the last couple of days enjoying a carb overload of pasta with the occasional cheese sandwich.
As it's Friday I thought as a special treat Id do some rustic (ie CBA to peel the spuds) wedges, just need to freezer rummage to find something to go with them.
-
Hubby’s sister & brother & spouses round today for dinner, so cold r.beef from Christmas Day,roast potatoes &parsnips with mustard & maple glaze, roast beetroot & balsamic, leeks in cheese sauce, peas, carrots,Brussels, gravy, all gluten free. Orange Christmas pud & triple chocolate mouse cake which was gluten free too (the Christmas pud wasn’t) as 2 sisters in law are coeliac.
-
Cauliflower cheese, crusty bread and chutney :)
-
Meat and potato pie, sprouts & carrots. Oh heavenly!
-
The training diet kicks back in tomorrow so tonight was an epic binge of Chinese Takeaway, snacks and an ongoing onslaught on our alcohol provisions.

Yeah, I'm in training too - won't be long to the sumo championships! :)
