Passion flower plant
« on: July 03, 2011, 19:47 »
We have planted a passion flower by our fence and it has 2 shoots one 6 feet and other 3 feet but would like more shoots, do we pinch out the growing tips?

That seems sensible but wait for others who actually know the answer to come along  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

You can cut them back quite hard to help them be a bit more bushy  :D

The builders broke the main stem of my plant which was climbing over the back of the house and I thought I'd lost it.
It came up again from the root and after 2 years it's nearly back to where it was!!!
So you can be quite ruthless and cut back.......

Don`t get too fond of your passion flower, if we have more winters like the last two it will probably not survive.
Vietta`s plant up against a warm house wall was lucky.

Let it grow while it can ! :D

I had 2 passion fowers, one over an archway and one against a trellis (both have been there for years).  they were HUGE and i thought i had lost both of them due to the harsh winter.

I cut both of them down to the main stem and hadnt got around to digging out the roots yet, however, last week i noticed that one of them is now growing again and no doubt will be taking over the trellis once again :D.

They seem to be pretty hardy, i would be tempted to experiment and give it a prune , although from experience, they tend to take over whatever you do ::)
