if all the above fails then get a 7lb sledge hammer (I would use a 14lb) and give it a slight tap on the air filter

That's where I went wrong then, I used a lump hammer

hi RR7,

When you say the spark was running around rather than through the spark plug, i thought the plug was u/s. They can and do "go" internally. Replace it with a brand new plug. They're cheeeeep.

Failing that, look at the HT cable. Simple stuff first, you dont want to go dismantling the points/magneto/whatever for something as simple as replacing a fuse

YES!! THANKS FELLAS

Followed what you all said, cleaned it all WD40'd it everywhere, got a belt off the HT lead this morning!, new plug and started on 2nd pull. Runs better now than ever. Just think it needs a tweak on the mixture but only time will tell if I've got it right.

Gwiz couldn't find any points I followed the gunked up cables into a big silver drum behind the flywheel. But without taking off the flywheel couldn't see any further.

Good to hear RR. I've been so please with mine since I got it running - especially with the satisfaction of knowing that I fixed it!

The mixture is fairly easy to adjust. I thought I had mine ok until when it got warm it wouldn't run unless the choke was out. I started from scratch with the needle and now she runs like a dream and starts really easily.

Perhaps I shouldn't have said that as I'm planning on using it this weekend
