My sprouts are looking healthy enougth but are covered with whitefly. Should I be worried and is there an organic method of dealing with them?

Spray with soapy water or water with fairy liquid added.

I should add that you will be breaking the law if you do so, as neither is licensed with DEFRA for pest control purposes.

I wouldn't be too worried if the plants are looking healthy enough - you will still get to harvest some decent sprouts - you can do as James says but I never bother - whitefly are just one of those ever present things on allotments.

Next time if you sow sprouts in modules/pots, when you transplant them you could try covering them in fleece or viromesh until they're really well established - then let the whitefly at them!
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

As far as spraying with washing up liquid goes, does it have to be an evil mineral Fairy variety, or will my tree hugging plant based Ecover stuff do the trick?

I've just come across a site that suggests using a 'dustbuster' to vacuum them off!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Ive got tons of whitefly but the CWB caterpillers are the enemy at the moment, both the black and yellow and the green ones. The green ones are worst cos they hard to spot and burrow in. Nothing seems to shift them.

I wasnt worried about the whitefly but now seem to have little brown 'scales' on the same plants. Are these something to do with the whitefly or another pest? im sure they are creatures, like little armoured things

I'm not sure if you'll get a reply on this.

It's nearly 3 years since it was posted & the OP has only posted once in the last 18 months.
