Espalier cherry shoots.
« on: May 17, 2015, 16:44 »
I have what looks like sprouting branch shoots growing from the trained branches of our espalier cherry tree.  I presume it is O.K to trim them back?

Over to you knowledgeables.   Cheers.  Tony. ;)
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

i have no experience on the matter as i'm pruning my young trees for the first time.

i have however done a lot of reading and ask plenty of questions on here and i think it is not advisable to espalier stoned fruit, it's usually advised to prune / train to an open centred bush or fan.

here's a link to RHS, i also have a link specifically to fan pruning, let me know if you need it.
