Title: Tomato seeds are banned!
Post by: hasbeans on May 01, 2018, 17:42
90% of the weeding I've done this year has been tomato seedlings from seeds in the compost I've spread.  Tomato seeds are no longer allowed in the compost heap!

You've  got to hand it to tomato seeds , they really do want to grow !

If only the other veg seeds tried half as hard ! ;)

I remember the tomato plants at the sewage works. They were ten foot tall.  :D

We went to an open day at the tomato   'farm' near us here on the Island, main base in southern Spain, the Tomatoes touched the top of the greenhouse and they  had  'cherry pickers' to harvest.  Apparently they are the main supplier for the British Isles of tomatoes.  But, the ones picked for our local supermarkets had to go to the mainland first to be 'approved' before they could return and sold to us!

One of these years I'm not going to bother growing tomato plants, but just leave the ones that pop up in the greenhouse border to get on with it, and see what happens.  I could thin out the surplus couple of thousand, and just leave a dozen to grow on, couldn't I?

I grew a couple last year that were from supermarket toms in the compost and they did as well as my others, except the Costoluto Fiorentino which went beserk and took over half of the tomato space!
