I deeply love asparagus but my cats jump and roll all over the bed and break the spears so I have to abandon it. Good luck to you and - so envious!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I have just moved plots. My asparagus on my 'old' plot is 3 this year.....alas I will not see it grow, nor savour its delicate flavour. I am however awaiting delivery of 30 new crowns so the 3 year wait will begin again  ::)
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

I chucked a couple of inches of spent compost over mine a week or so ago - the spears are obviously there of course but I'm not going to demean myself by poking around looking for them!  :tongue2:  :tongue2:  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thought I spotted a shoot, but it turned out to be a rogue broad bean. :nowink: :nowink:

Not seen a sign yet of any in my bed ( Hope my vigorous anti couche grass activities haven't hurt any spears)

Well, I went and picked and ate them today. All 8. The first eaten ever from this bed since I planted it 2 years ago. And very nice they were too. I have 40 plants, 10 each of 4 different varieties. Only one variety has shown itself so far this year.

My first solitary purple spear was poking out of the surface this morning, let's hope I get more than that from 30 crowns. 10 of 3 varieties...
