« on: February 12, 2012, 08:17 »
can anybody tell me if there is any real difference between a Polytunnel and a greenhouse?

By difference I mean in the growing.

the difference in an greenhouse and a polytunnel is the climates they produce.

greenhouse traditionally  a drier climate suited to tomatoes peppers chillis etc

polytunnels provides a slightly more humid climate suitable for cucumbers

but  i have successfully grown both tomatos, cucumbers and peppers in a polytunnel
keep it organic and you will see the difference including taste......

Is this because of the cooler outside air coming in?

Depends on space size, garden / allotment. Charlie required planning perm for his at allotment, but it is massive. He mainly grow tomatoes in his, lettuce in winter.

I've currently sectioned off half of my greenhouse widthways with bubble wrap (my friend works in a factory so i get it for free) to make a separate humid room and i have a paraffin heater in at the moment
When i die i shall go to may. It will be green. Not environmentally correct green, for things will just be, without measurement or judgement, but actually the colour green in all its thousand shining faces.
