Hen House
« on: December 11, 2011, 12:48 »
Hi from France
Just moved here (3 mths) from Northampton.
Have 2.5 acres to play with. Looking at a few chooks (4-6) for next year, so looking to build a coop. Are there any plans anywhere for free, that i could use or adapt to suit my requirements. Everywhere i've found on-line seem to want paying. ;)

cheers

Congrats on the move, hope you'll be really happy. I'd check some of the threads on here, can't find a link, but there is a few brill coops that make for happy hens and easy to clean out as well.
Of course we'd like to hear more about your place and see some pics, or at least I would.

Cheers

 :)
Best Regards,

Cheers for that Spud.
I'll get some pics sorted as things progress.
Chooks, Veggie-plot and couple of lambs high on list.
Busy at the moment getting 'Gite' ready for rental next year.

Have a look through this thread- http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=73179.0

You should find lot's of good ideas in there. We built our own coop too, it was mainly built out of reclaimed wood so that kept the costs down for us.

When you plan & build your chicken housing, allow extra space as you'll probably want to get more before too long.....

And with the Gite, you should have a ready market for any surplus eggs!

I have just finished building a broody coop and a hen house, using the same basic design. It is based on a design discussed here last year. The structure is on the outside with minimum inside. They don't look pretty, but I don't think the hens notice. I'll try to get pics and drawing together and post
