Alex, it's not a thistle on your spuds - it's a comfrey plant. Cut it down to 6" and pop the leaves between the spuds. It will fertilise them.

There is a thistle next to it, a rare ish speciman seeded from nearby Myddleton House, former home of Mr Bowles the plant collector & horticulturist.

Almost as good as my cane toppers charlwood.  I use my son's empty enema bottles!!  No rust or sharp edges!!  He gets through around 150 a year, thats a lot of cane toppers!
Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

nowt wrong with rows and non edged beds!!  its the way i am going with my lottie other than the asparagus coz its permanent.  but i do have edged if not raised, beds in the garden just to keep it looking smart.
