Hi all.  I've dug out all the perennial weeds (I hope) and am getting the allotment rotovated tomorrow.  That's my Christmas present to me by the way.  It beats the Jamie Oliver flavour shaker and socks by miles

I'm going to throw horse poo over two thirds and leave to rot.  I think peas and beans like poo so should I plant mine directly into the ground under some, or start them in pots in the greenhouse?  Reckon garlic can go straight in as they like a frost to get them going.

Anyhoo, all advice welcome.  Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  Can't wait until spring

i would start your beans (broad beans) and peas in pots now in a greenhouse or under cover to get them started or wait a couple of months to sow them outside.if we get some hard frosts in the next couple of months then sowing them straight into the soil wont do them any good at all.try and sow half your garlic outside its got to be a well drained area though and the other half in 4" pots you can plant those out in feb/march,
thats what i would do.

Thanks Shaun.  Man turned up with a mini plough and my plot resembles the Somme :shock: No nice lines, just dirty great circles and he took out some of next doors flower bed :oops:  Not a good start to my tenancy.  So I've chucked on lots of manure and started to pray for frost.  Oh, and for my neighbour not to notice the large gouge in his plot.
