Lengthening days :)
« on: February 03, 2018, 17:17 »
I noticed today that although it has been a cold, grey old day, it was still light at 5pm YAY.... It'll soon be Spring  :)

We noticed it too earlier in the week when we went out for one of our usual walks. We've been starting out in the dark for what seems forever but it was lovely to set off in the light, even though it was a bit nippy.

I noticed a slightly lighter early evening too. Lifted my spirit slightly.

It certainly is changing quite rapidly now. Today, 4th Feb, the daylength is 9hrs 21min, compared to only 7hr 49mins on 21st Dec. This will lengthen to 10hr 50min by end of Feb and 16hr 38min by 21st June

In the depths of Winter, the sun never reaches our back garden, but now there are patches of sunshine on the grass and the golden crocuses are opening. Definitely "longer" sunshine  :nowink:

It's so much nicer knowing that we have spring and summer to look forward to instead of winter.  The days are certainly getting longer.  The magic moment I'm waiting for is the early morning when everything is totally silent except for the blackbird singing outside my bedroom window. It's a sound I remember happening every year since my childhood, and it gives me such a feeling of peace and that everything is alright with the world.
Roll on summer!

Back when we were younger, it was April before we realised that warmer weather was on the way.

Then, getting a bit older, it became March, and even now, February is the month to kick off Spring, with the snowdrops, daffs and primroses all jumping to life!

The daylight is lengthening by the day but it doesn't feel like it when in January, my area had about 35% less sunshine than normal (Charlwood was the 5th dullest place in the country). When it is persistently grey and claggy, the twilight rushes in quickly, and knocks an hour off the useable daylight.
