Qualcast Cultimatic Oil Level
« on: November 15, 2017, 15:50 »
Have just bought a "Birmid Qualcast Culti/Super Ser. 2", according to the info panel on the inside of the lift-up belt cover.

I have downloaded a PDF manual from this site - thanks - that is broadly similar but shows a different engine.

My alloy engine has two plastic oil-filler caps, one at the front, and the other at the back of the engine, both at the same level, and one drain plug with a square top lower down, but no dipstick.

Do you fill up to the drain plug with the engine level ?

Is this an A.98 engine ?

Thanks

Michael

Fill up until it runs out of the filler hole, with the engine level.

Thanks for the reply.

Up to the filler lip was what I meant to say in my question - filling up to the drain hole equals no oil !!

I forgot to mention that it will be an A98 as it has a Zenith carb. I am fairly sure the A114s and A148s had DelOrto carbs, later changed to either Tillotson or Walboro.

Thanks again

I'm assuming it won't like unleaded, so I'll need some lead additive?

It will be fine on unleaded. The cylinder block is aluminium, so Qualcast fitted steel valve seat inserts, which are OK with unleaded fuel. Side valve engines are all low compression, so no problems with pre-ignition on unleaded either. In theory, the earlier, cast iron engines need an additive, but I used one for 10 years on unleaded without problems.
