growing peppers
« on: April 26, 2015, 07:36 »
Morning All

This is my first attempt at growing peppers, they are about six inches tall now
and I was wondreing do I just leave them or do you pinch them out at some stage.
Any advice would be warmly received.
keep on digging

I think it's mainly down to the variety and personal choice, which varieties are you growing.

If they start to produce flowers before they have branched, then I remove the flowers and top bud, to force the plant to branch.

If they set a fruit before they branch, then they never seem to reach a decent size.

I've never pinched them out but depending on when you planted them you could pinch out at around 4 true leaves to encourage growth, depending on what you're pinching out don't leave it too late as you might end up with no peppers.

I grow California Wonder most years. I never pinch out my peppers as I find it delays fruiting, then my peppers don't ripen as they need a long growing season.
We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden.
