I keep hearing about this on radio 4 woman's hour, food and drink but its over £20.00 can anyone recommend it?

If you are interested in why things work cooking-wise, it might be worth it - but it's not a cookery book.

I've spent the past week or so wondering about this one! I'm definitely going to get it but think I'm going to wait for some vouchers from work. I'd also love to possess Modernist Cuisine but that's probably a 30 year old birthday present to myself...

You may like the Larousse Gastronomique ( I have the paperback) which is enjoyable to flick through but is more like a dictionary.

There is the new Oxford Companion to Food (or somesuch) which is getting rave reviews.

I did get the Flavour Thesaurus for my kindle and that it really interesting.
