May I suggest either a punt gun or, even better, a Martini Henry as used by the British in the Zulu war of Rorke's Drift. Can't just remember the exact model but it was mentioned in the film which is one of my favourites. Maybe it was a .455???

We use peckish. Very good mix with very little wheat, so more suitable for small birds and quite a lot of the seeds have been dehusked, which makes for less mess.
