Title: my new chooks- advice needed
Post by: jhub on April 30, 2010, 09:41
my 3 girls arrived 4 days ago and appear to have settled in well, they are establishing their pecking order and the gingernut ranger is definitely at the bottom. She is not being denied food or water although I plan to put in another feeder just in case. Since she's been here her poos are bright orange and runny ( no froth)  and her vent feathers are becoming matted. She is alert, friendly and happy- in that chicken sort of way. I looked at the poo pages but can't really see a likeness.
They have all been vaccinated and wormed so any advice gratefully received.

Also they have no idea about going up the steps to their eglu cube- is this just a matter of time??

many thanks

they will get the idea after a short while about how to get in their cube, but for a couple of nights you may want to have a torch in there to show them where to go and then remove it when they are in. Also you could try placing them on the steps and walking them up sort off until they do cotton on
The vent feathers may becuse she isn't dropping her feathery knickers far enough (I have a couple like this), just try to keep on top of cleaning them. Do you have a photo of her pooh to give us a better idea?
