Hi, interesting post, I'm keen to see what people say too  :)

Last week we lost a 7/8 year old hen from illness. Other than being black I don't know her breed! She may have been older but we were home no. 4 so can't be certain, definitely 7/8 though.

Mine is Mrs Doubtfire who is a bantam Vorwark who was 8 this spring. She was head hen but these days lives a quiet life as coop elder.  This is her earlier this year.

I'm also interested in seeing people's responses!  Mine are just youngsters yet, so I hope I have many happy years with them.  Biut I did meet a lady recently who had just lost her 15 year old seebright (sp?) bantam!

The oldest chicken ever recorded was 16 years old when she died. Her name was Matilda and she was a bantam. Oh bless!

My oldest reached a ripe old age of 14! I currantly have one that is second hand to me and she was about 4 when I got her so that would make her about 8 or 9 now! The bossy one in the coop and has the best plumage out of the lot. Both were hybred brown hens.
