I have grown De Colgar tomatoes from Real Seeds for the first time this year.

As these are supposed to be more suitable for storage I was just wondered if anyone had any experience with these and if so when it is best to pick them? And how to store them?

Mine are a good size but do not look like they are going to go completely red.

Real seeds says

The idea is that you pick them at the end of them summer and put them carefully aside in your cool larder (much as you would store apples); with a bit of care they keep until January! We have tried this several times and it really does work.

(Just as with apples, you need a slightly humid but well-ventilated store, with a steady temperature ideally about 8-10 C. But if you don't get it quite right they still store better than other tomatoes.)

BUT de colgar or ramalet means for hanging, in the med the plants are just uprooted and hung by the roots in a shed or cellar, or tied in strings like chilli ristras. I suggest a basket/tray under them to catch any that fall, rather than them make a mess.

I will cut the whole truss and hang them up, let's hope they last a while - that will be good as we have run out of freezer space again
