Growing Courgettes in Pots
« on: June 21, 2018, 00:51 »
Could anyone tell me the ideal diameter of Pots to best grow courgettes in please ?
Also I have them in small pots at the moment but already the plants are yielding lots of flowers , if I pick the flowers ( i love to stuff them with Cheese, batter them ,&fry them), will that inhibit the growth of the actual courgettes ?
Thanks

I have grown them in pots  but they are really better in the ground.
The bigger the pot the better - 50cm half barrel I  found was the best, 30 cm  planter as a minimum
You will need to water regularly.
Have you thought of using a grow bag?

With regard to harvesting the actual flowers, if you leave female ones, that have a baby courgette developing behind them, as opposed to male ones, those that just have a thin straight stem, these will develop into fruits once they are  pollinated.

So don't eat all the male ones and leave the female ones too if you'd like to harvest actual courgettes

I don't think courgettes are as prone to thinking they've done enough if you don't pick them as, say, runner beans are (some have been known to wish they were!)

Even courgettes eventually run out of steam though.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
